Weird. I've got a guy at a Nissan dealership who is looking for a 13-15 SL, with premium pkg, for me. One of the country's top shops. He sent an email yesterday, saying that management told the staff that there would be NO 2016 Leaf! I called him today, to confirm. I find this very hard to believe, but I can't imagine he would be lying to me. He also said the Maxima(?) once skipped a year. (and HE could have been lied to!)
These forums are usually pretty sharp, and I've heard nothing. I just called another dealer, asking for someone familiar with a Leaf. 'I beg your pardon?' I said it more slowly. A LEAF. 'OK, I'll connect you with our lease specialist... I stopped her, and got a sales person. I asked if they were taking orders on 2016 Leaf's. She had to check. She said they wouldn't come out until mid November, but 'there won't be any difference from the 2015.' What about the battery? 'That won't be until 2017'...
So much misinformation out there!
I assume she asked the sales manager. He may have told her to push the 15's, and not say anything about the 16's?
I know sales have tanked in Ga, when they removed the $5000 credit. But have sales taken a dump, nationwide, too, with cheaper gas? I also think that if the TN Leaf line was shut down, it would have made national news. I'm finding nothing, even in the local news.
A mystery! Anyone else heard any good rumors?
(if this isn't confirmed by others, I'll take it down)

Here's the same press release but from Nissan's PR site : http://nissannews.com/en-US/nissan/usa/releases/new-2016-nissan-leaf-now-offers-best-in-class-107-mile-range-in-affordable-fun-to-drive-package

I meant nothing, in reference to 'no 2016 models'.
I think this is a closed subject, unless anyone knows differently. But why would a dealer say this to their sales staff? It wouldn't make them sell 2015's any faster.
But who knows the mind of a shop owner...

The 2016 Leaf is very different from the 2015, as the links in previous posts show. Perhaps someone said that the current Leaf is being discontinued in favor of something different, and the hint of truth there got magnified.

Actually, it is far more alike than it is different... We won't get different until 2017 at the earliest...

This is just another example of an incompetent dealer...

The sales manager at this shop emailed me, wanting to know if the sales guy did this and did that. Was he attentive, did he answer all my questions... I replied that he did fine, but I asked him about the 2016's.
And I never heard back from the guy. I need to send in a review for HIM!

Must agree with TomT on this one, just another example of dealer incompetence. I find that the VAST majority of the time I tend to know more about their cars than they do. Over the summer I had my Leaf at the dealer for it's first 6 month checkup (free at the dealer where I purchased it) and was talking to the service manager about improvements to future MY Leafs. He told me flat out the battery will never get bigger, it's too expensive, Leaf will always be a short commuter car. When I told him about everything I had been reading regarding a 150 - 200 mile Leaf within a few years he repeated his line. Of course, he is the SERVICE manager so the Leaf kind of threatens his livelihood.

Could Nissan be moving up the intro date for the 2017 model? If so, it makes sense to sell out the remaining inventory of 2015 and bring out the 2017 early.
