Osama bin Laden, the mastermind of the most devastating attack on American soil in modern times and the most hunted man in the world, was killed in a firefight with United States forces in Pakistan on Sunday, President Obama announced.

"Physical security is extraordinary: 12 to 16 foot walls, walled areas, restricted access by two security gates." The residents burn their trash, unlike their neighbors. There are no windows facing the road. One part of the compound has its own seven-foot privacy wall.

And unusual for a multi-million-dollar home: It has no telephone or Internet service.

This home, U.S. intelligence analysts concluded, was "custom built to hide someone of significance."

I find it difficult to believe Pakistan govt didn't know about this massive compound with special security and no telephone connection. Good that Obama didn't inform them before taking action.

From what we're hearing, this was a very carefully and masterfully planned operation, with very successful secrecy and very careful efforts not to harm innocent bystanders. It is being considered a very gutsy move by President Obama, considering the potential political fallout of an unsuccessful operation.

This will be an exciting film WHEN it is made, which I expect to be soon. I can hear Hollywood's cell phones ringing from here.

Fox has, to say the least, very low standards of journalism. But to cut Fox just a bit of slack I'd point out that the national Fox organization seems to be taking care to avoid just this sort of spelling mistake. (Or Spoonerism most likely.) All the other networks last night spelled the terrorist's name Osama, as phonetic transcription from Arabic. Fox spelled it Usama.
