Hopefully we're hitting the old site and our DNS server still has the old site cached..

Yupe, that is it exactly.

The DNS TTL refresh (so people get to the right spot) can take upwards of 24 hours to complete. We kept the 'old' site live as well over the last two days. Which is why a few people still got the 'old and busted' Everyone should be pointed at the new one now.
