Dear Mr./Mrs. thankyouOB,

The California Center for Sustainable Energy (CCSE) and the California Air Resources Board, in support of the Clean Vehicle Rebate Project, have released the results of the largest plug-in electric vehicle (PEV) owner survey taken in California.

We would like to take the opportunity to sincerely thank you for participating in this survey. It is because of you that this research was made possible. As we mentioned at the survey launch, the data collected will help guide sound transportation policy in California. As a testament to that effort, CCSE has been invited to present this research at the upcoming summit on zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) in Sacramento to roll-out the Governor’s Action Plan for ZEVs following on his executive order. The summit will include over 250 key stakeholders ranging from Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), to local governments, infrastructure companies, state agencies and many more.

You may access the survey results and in-depth analysis or learn more about the Clean Vehicle Rebate Project, by visiting: http://www.energycenter.org/pevsurvey" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

This is the first major analysis of PEV owner experiences in California and provides information on vehicle use, charging behaviors, access to charging, fueling costs and household demographics that are of critical interest to the auto industry, government officials and others in the PEV marketplace.
Highlights from the data collected include:

89% of owners use their PEV as their primary car, driving an average of 800 electric-fueled miles per month.
In San Diego, favorable utility rates result in PEV owners paying equivalent to $0.90 to $1.90 per gallon of gasoline to power their electric vehicles.
Because California uses no oil to generate electricity, the current electric vehicles in the state save approximately 350,000 gallons of petroleum every month, decreasing imports and reducing the overall demand for oil.
Roughly two-thirds of vehicle charging takes place in off-peak hours (8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.).
39% of the state's PEV owners have also invested in home solar energy systems, helping to power their vehicles with renewable energy and further reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
In addition to charging at home, 71% of PEV owners report having access to either public or workplace charging or both.
In addition to these highlights, CCSE has prepared in-depth analysis based on survey results that address three other topics: residential charging and the use of lower cost time-of-use electricity rates, the link between PEV ownership and residential solar, and vehicle owner access and willingness to pay for public vehicle charging.
As we move forward with future phases of this ongoing research I urge your continued participation. If you have any questions regarding the survey results or analysis please feel free to contact us. We strongly value your input and welcome your comments.

Regards,
CVRP Program Staff
