Leaf Spy Pro Pictures...need guidance

Thu Sep 07, 2017 10:01 am

Hello All,

I'm looking to buy one (still). Still trying to figure out the whole OBDII dongle and app. Previously, I had a lot of trouble when I plugged the dongle directly to the car port. All sorts of blinker, error light issues, etc. Is this normal? Frustrated as this is the 2nd opportunity I had to use this set up and not get it right...I rummaged through the bag the OBDII dongle came in...and apparently, I also purchased a connector.

So this morning plugged in the connector to car OBD port, connected dongle to that...and turned on car and app. Voila...no error codes...WTF?

So I decided to capture all the screen shots of the car. However, the things that I was told are the most important AHr and SOH...don't seem to be showing up at all. I'm including a bunch of the setting screenshots as well so anyone who knows a thing or two can tell me if my settings are screwed up, etc.

I've got 4 more hours before it goes back to the dealership (and I buy it...or not). Price is $10,700 all in (T,T&L). I'm trying to be at $10k even.

thanks

Your Drop Box links don't work. I get "DT Comer wants to share the folder leaf spy pro with you..." and wants me to sign up. Sorry.

In your previous post at viewtopic.php?f=27&t=24442&p=503085#p503085, you said you didn't know what you were doing w/Leaf Spy.

We have no idea what dongle or phone you have. If you have a Konnwei KW-902, some are defective (viewtopic.php?f=44&t=23776) and may cause a T/M malfunction error to appear on the car and may even damage it. DO NOT use it until you take measurements on the pins mentioned there. If you do receive a T/M malfunction error when trying to use whatever you have, STOP using it! If the resistance is wrong, either get another dongle (preferably another model) or remove the resistor as specified (on a KW-902) and measure resistance again.

I created https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPE-wPnaALU earlier tonight that hopefully clarifies some stuff about the UI in the Android version of Leaf Spy Pro. Sorry about the vertical video.

I forgot to mention, you should have the car powered up in READY mode (green car w/arrows), achieved by putting your foot on the brake and pushing power until that happens. If there's no green Connected box in the lower right w/the numbers changing, all bets are off. Don't bother posting values. Some/many/all values will be incorrect garbage values.

Please also read https://www.facebook.com/notes/seattle- ... 373291032/. And, please specify the car's build month and where it resided before per Carfax and Autocheck. The Leaf Spy values other than the odometer and VIN might be of no value if the car was the victim of a BMS reset (e.g. http://daveinolywa.blogspot.com/2014/11 ... -read.html).

Model year? Trim level (e.g. S, SV or SL)? Which packages on it, if any?

Thanks CWERDNA,

My apologies about the DropBox...I was trying to get something up I could show and that was the only thing I figured out based on the forum FAQs.

Yep, I have the KW902. Possibly defective...as it did give the TM error, until I used a cable extender, so I don't know. However, I didn't maintain all "green" in the lower right corner. It flickered back and forth. So it got some information but not all. I haven't been able to get all information in any of my vehicles (08 Acura RDX, 98 Acura CL, 13 Nissan NV Cargo Van).

Let's say the dongle sux. Do I replace it with another KW902 and hope for the best or is there another brand you recommend?

Thanks

BTW - looking at a 2015 S model...no frills except QC - They have (2) looking at $11,400 w/TTL range from 23k - 29 k miles. I've figured out all I need is basic transportation. Would like an SV just to get updated electronic stuff to play with but not a requirement.

I would NOT ever use that KW-902 again on ANY vehicle unless you remove the resistor, as directed. Those out of spec dongles could damage the Leaf. Otherwise, get something else compatible.

The “flicker” back and forth is NOT normal. It should be able to maintain the (green) connection the whole time. This may also be a side effect of the defective dongle.

As for your other vehicles, I’m not sure why you’re listing them. Leaf Spy is not designed to work with any non-Leaf vehicles. I would NEVER want to use a Leaf Spy on a non-Leaf. You could cause problems on those vehicles. Who knows if it’s sending traffic or making queries on the CAN bus that can have unpredictable bad effects on non-Leafs.

(Well, maybe the only non-Leaf vehicles that I might try it on would be cars like the Venucia e30 (https://www.autoblog.com/2014/09/13/nis ... ina-sales/) or possibly the e-NV200 electric cargo van, which isn’t sold in the US.)

Except for the resistance being way out of spec on those bad KW-902’s, Bluetooth/wi-fi OBD2 dongles in general, should be fine on other vehicles. The problem/question is the software connected to it and what it might send onto the car’s CAN (and possibly other) bus(es). Leaf Spy was ONLY written to work w/Leafs.

BTW, https://www.facebook.com/notes/seattle- ... 373291032/ may help.

The reason why I asked “where it resided before per Carfax and Autocheck” is because cars that resided in a hot climate (e.g. Phoenix) have much worse battery degradation (and thus range autonomy reduction) vs. ones that resided in a mild climate, like the PNW.

So after 1 year and plenty of lurking on this forum and asking questions, I finally purchased a Leaf. I got a 2015 S w/QC package.
I finally got a chance to use Leaf Spy Pro and it was working so here are the stats:

AHr = 57.26
SOH = 92%
389.21V
Hx = 87.47%
odo = 22163 mi
12 QC & 797 L1/L2s
27 mV

229 GIDS 81.5%

Not sure what all this means....just want to know if I'm good for basic city transportation for the next 5 - 7 years. Bought it to transport kid to school...which is now a 100 mi/week endeavor.

You have roughly 92% of the battery's original capacity left, and you may want to give the car a couple of slow, full L-1 charges to get the pack into better balance. It looks ok otherwise. Please put your location (city, state) in your signature line so we know more about your climate.

The most offensive, tasteless phrase in use here is "Pulled the trigger." I no longer respond to posts that use it.
