The dealer is offering a 7 year $2300 ,100% protection plan..They said that they would replace everything except brake pads,tires,wipers..
Anyone have any thoughts on this..I think within 5 years I may upgrade the battery pack in the Leaf or buy another type of E-Car that may travel up to 200 miles per charge..

If they give you a pack capacity warranty sure if not its way overpriced:) Read the terms...

a couple of questions, please answer all of them, not just the easy ones:

1. have you checked the competition?

2. do you have a brochure with exactly what is covered?.. or is it all hearsay?, dont forget dealers lie sometimes.

3. Is it a dealer specific warranty, is it a third party insurance co warranty, or is it the Nissan corporate extended warranty?

4. do you have to buy it today or can you postpone it for a couple of years?

Your warranty is way over priced. It does not cover deterioration of the battery. It is a Nissan factory warranty.

I still feel like I don't understand Nissan's offering, even though I'm not considering a purchase. What they offered me at the dealer when I picked up the car is basically a pre-paid service contract for the car. So it follows the service schedules and provides benefits according to that. Since we don't know how much some of those service items are going to cost, it was really impossible to make any sort of calculation on whether it would be worth it to pre-pay them. The plan seemed expensive, but that's about as far as I got. It seemed to follow the "severe" schedule, if I remember correctly, and I didn't think that my driving (1700 miles in 3.5 months) was enough to be "severe".

To me, that is a whole lot different than a traditional "extended warranty" where your transmission, engine, or other high priced failure would be covered during the time period, of course with many exclusions that limit the usefulness of a typical warranty.

Do you have any details about what the $2300 covers or pre-pays?

Never buy insurance against risks you can afford to take yourself. If the extended warranty was a good deal for you they wouldn't be selling it. Just one more worthless money making gimmick dealers try to foist on unwitting consumers.

Believe me, even if you do get the warranty chances are good when you have a problem and it's time to collect there will be some excuse why your problem isn't covered. Somewhere in the 50 pages of fine print. Somebody will have a nice vacation with your $2300 and you will be the chump.

Ya, these type of "muffler insurance" are just snake oil profit makers.

If it's strictly from the dealer, who is to say the dealer will even be around when you have a claim? Or that you won't move to another area?

Put the money in a 0.2% bank CD and know that you'll have $2302 when you need something fixed in 7 years.

Northbay Nissan Matches this as well. Additionally for 25% more, they offer a money back guarantee if you don't use this.

Don't they all send out a mailer as the included warranty is about to expire?
If the Leaf is going to be trouble I think you will discover that in the first three years and then buy the extended warranty.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . .
One thing you ALSO need to determine is whether the "Month" amount is AFTER your 36 months run out, or whether the "Month" amount runs from when your car is MANUFACTURED. That' one of the skummy tricks I've seen some dealers do. Read the boilerplate!

.

Nissan has changed the "extended warantee" for the Leaf. You can view this statement on their portal under warantee:

For extra protection, you can also add Security+Plus®, the only extended service agreement approved by Nissan.

This seems to be different than the "Gold" etc. plans Nissan usually offers.

I "chatted" with them for details and it was a surprise to the fellow who answered. He promised to get back with me in 24-48 hours.
