What is this???

New to forum - I bought 2nd hand 2012 Leaf and after driving it for 2 months this dropped down from behind the dash....Does anyone know what it could be. The red bit is double sided tape which was clearly not used. Strange that there is no protective wiring sheath or Nissan part tag. My hunch is it's something aftermarket?

my feeling exactly - the car had been on a 3 year lease with our monopoly utility for the purpose of seeing what implications EV's would have on them. I wonder if it is a tracking device.....

I was going to say, that looks almost like it could be a GPS tracker but I haven't seen one that looked exactly like that.

My second guess is some sort of ignition immobilizer or perhaps a simple operating hours counter. Could also be an RFID badge reader.

Have you tracked where it's wires go?

How about scanning for Bluetooth devices from your phone immediately after turning the car on?

Any idea where it is plugged in to? The OBDII port or just 12v or ?

I would guess a GPS tracker, but I find it hard to believe it would get signal under the dash or some sort of data logger for insurance?

Yes - my auto-electrician confirmed its the antenna of an tracking device. Not sure who's seeing where I've been going, but anywho - Thanks for the help!
