Hey Guys,

Does anyone here know what warranty coverage the wheel bearings and transmission fall under? I am starting to hear an oscillating hum on about a 5-8 second period, so quite gradual / slow paced. The pitch increases with speed but is noticeable / hearable between ~35-55 mph the most.

The car was first registered in late december 2013 so my warranty expires in about a month for the 5 yr / 60k portion (and i'm at 58k miles), but i bought my car CPO from Nissan in 2017 (though i didn't buy any of the extended warranties they offered). Has anyone had a noise like this and should i be suspecting a wheel bearing or the transmission here (in my experience wheel bearings don't oscillate like this... or could this be a bad tire cord, got new tires earlier this year too).

thanks for input!
Marko

I'm fairly sure it's under the 3 year bumper to bumper warranty. If not it's even less. The 5 year warranty is for the EV-specific drivetrain parts only, as I understand it.

It's actually a bit vague. At first, I thought it'd be only covered under the 3 year/36K basic warranty.

One can d/l the warranty booklet from https://owners.nissanusa.com/nowners/navigation/manualsGuide.

From page 7 (10 of the PDF) from my '13 warranty booklet:
POWERTRAIN COVERAGE
The Powertrain coverage period is 60 months or
60,000 miles, whichever comes first.
This warranty covers any repairs needed to correct
defects in materials or workmanship.
Powertrain coverage applies to components
listed below, under the headings Drivetrain, Restraint
System, and Electric Vehicle System, supplied
by Nissan, subject to the exclusions listed
under the heading “WHAT IS NOT COVERED”.
DRIVETRAIN
Drive shafts, final drive housing and all internal
parts, universal joints, bearings, seals and gaskets.
RESTRAINT SYSTEM
Air bags and related electronic control systems.
ELECTRIC VEHICLE (EV) SYSTEM COVERAGE
The EV System coverage period is 60 months or
60,000 miles, whichever come first.
This warranty covers any repairs needed to correct
defects in materials or workmanship.
EV System Coverage applies to components
listed below under the heading EV System, supplied
by Nissan, subject to the exclusions listed
under the heading WHAT IS NOT COVERED.
EV SYSTEM
Motor, Inverter unit, VCM, Reduction gear,
DC/DC converter, Onboard charger, Onboard
charger connector, and Trickle charge cable.
You can see bearings are mentioned, but are they talking about internal bearings or wheel bearings?

https://nissannews.com/en-US/nissan/usa/releases/nissan-plugs-electric-leaf-into-certified-pre-owned-vehicles-program says
In addition to the existing 8-year/100,000 mile* battery warranty coverage protecting against defects in materials and workmanship, and 5 year/60,000 mile* coverage for battery capacity loss below 9 bars of capacity as shown by the vehicle's battery capacity level gauge, Nissan will extend the EV system and powertrain warranty coverage to 7 years or 100,000 miles*.

Looks to me like the bearings are excluded.
No. "Subject to the exclusions listed under the heading “WHAT IS NOT COVERED”..." is on another page (9, 12 of the PDF). There is only one occurrence of bearing or bearings in the warranty booklet.

See https://imgur.com/a/MlTe4Dl and https://imgur.com/a/QrYx2md.

based on the above link it sounds like the reduction gear and wheel bearings fall under the 5 year / 60k coverage.
