I picked up my first EV today a blue 2013 SV built in 8/13. 12 bars and 61Ah on Leafspy with 28,000 miles. Has both 6.6kwh and CHAdeMO chargers and the right heater I'm super happy with her! Next mission: upgrade to 3G and get the app to work.

Wow 120v charging is a joke! Gonna mod my Nissan EVSE for 240v this week.
You are gonna mod it or are you going to have EVSEupgrade mod it? If the latter being a '14 they can mod it up to 20a @ 240v, if you DIY I believe you are limited to 12a. I had my '13 upgraded by Phil and it works well, not sure I'd still go the upgrade route with the newer Leafs that top out at 16a though and I really doubt I'd go through the bother for 12a but thats your call.

Well at 120v the stock EVSE is almost useless. I am a DIYer and like tinkering so I'm gonna do it so I can get 240 charging this week and then I'm keeping my eye open for a nice, hardly-used 30 amp unit.

Agree, if you like DIY then even 12a @ 240v is twice as fast as what you have now. I rarely see EVSEs on Craigslist but they do pop up every once in a while. The 30a GE Wattstation is generally $399 on Amazon but currently is sitting at $499 or more, as it does on occasions. Keep checking and it's bound to drop down to $399, if interested. It's about cheap as it gets for a 30a wall mount big company EVSE.

I did the mod on my EVSE and am totally happy with it. It is sufficient for the normal 20 seconds to fuel each day, 10 to plug in and 10 to unplug the next day. I used an L14-20 extension cord and made adapters for NEMA 5-15, 10-30, and 14-50 to support most options while on the road. There have been a few times that I wished I could charge at 25 miles per hour (6.6KW) at home but not very often.

Inexpensive EVSE units can be had on eBay on the cheap.... I'm not endorsing this seller, but it was one of the first ones I found.

Durandal, I actually just bought that EVSE a little while ago! I was looking around and that price was just too good to pass up. Sounds like a stand-up vendor too.

Today, I also bought all the parts to convert my Nissan EVSE and wire myself a nice NEMA 14-50 in the garage for about $100.

You can get the 30 amp GE Durastation for $399 at Home Depot: http://www.homedepot.com/p/GE-EV-Charger-Indoor-Outdoor-Level-2-DuraStation-Wall-Mount-with-18-ft-Cord-EVDSWGH-CP01/205808537

Home Depot says the Wattstation is discontinued: http://www.homedepot.com/p/GE-EV-Charger-Indoor-Outdoor-Level-2-WattStation-Wall-Mount-with-Plug-EVWSWBC-CP01/203001939

For the same price and more portability (but a shorter cord at just 12 feet), there's the Leviton EvrGreen: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Leviton-Evr-Green-Mini-Electric-Vehicle-Charging-Station-Level-2-Wall-Mounted-with-12-ft-Cord-000-EVBL2-P12/206617056 for $50 extra you can get a version with an 18 foot cord like the Durastation: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Leviton-Evr-Green-Mini-Electric-Vehicle-Charging-Station-Level-2-Wall-Mounted-with-18-ft-Cord-005-EVBL2-P18/206617091 Both are likely only 24 or even 20 amp units though.

Sorry, I meant GE Durastation, the ugly white one
It seems like HD is the best place to get it, Amazon occasionally has it for the same $399 but then it jumps up to $499 or more
What I'd like about the GE is it's ability to set various maximum output currents, true it's with jumpers(or is it dip switches??) but it's still nice IMO.
