I'm an EV newbie who's considering leasing a new 2018 Leaf S - I don't really want or need any of the optional stuff. The one thing that puzzles me is the $1590.00 optional "Charging Package". According to the Nissan website, it just includes a cable and a Quick Charging port. I've got several other ICE cars I can drive as needed and would only use the Leaf for the daily commute to work (appx 20 miles total daily use). I don't anticipate ever needing Quick Charge.
$1590.00 seems like a lot for a cable and QC port. Does it also include an on-board charger so I can just plug the cable into any 240VAC outlet?
Or, could I save (appx $1k) and just use an aftermarket home-type Level 2/240VAC charger like a Clipper Creek (or similar) unit?
Advantages and disadvantages?
Thanks,
Jeff
