This is the same as the first link in my post, without the autoblog wrappings. ;)

It really is a beautiful car.

Oh yes - I din't notice the vimeo link.

I like the demo car styling better (atleast the faux grill part).

I know someone who canceled his LEAF order and placed a deposit on a Tesla Model S instead.

I have to admit - if I had twice as much money for a car - I would be seriously tempted, too!

I must admit I hadn't paid any attention to the Model S, since it will be well outside my price range. So it was a huge surprise to learn that this is a rear "engine", and presumably rear wheel drive, car. It takes me back to the first three vehicles I ever owned, all of which came from a certain German company. Of course there is an order of magnitude of difference in price, even allowing for 40 years of inflation. (I had 2 "bugs" and a "bus".)

I've followed Tesla since its inception and fully intended to buy a Model S... But the Leaf has stolen my heart, at least for now! That and the S is too big to fit into my garage well. I'm just not crazy about big cars. The Leaf price sure helps a lot too!

I drove a Tesla roadster last Saturday and was very impressed. If the S was available right now, I would consider it, but it's looking like the end of next year before I could buy one, and the pricing is still unsettled and bound to go up by the launch IMHO. SWSBO does not want to wait another year for an EV, and paying half as much for the Leaf appeals to me, despite the exciting features, appearance and performance attributes of the Tesla S. If it turns out to be everything the promo hype claims, it will be quite a car.

Maybe it'll be our next EV purchase down the line...

Yep - once my Leaf lease is up, I'll be looking at Model S, Infinity EV or Megacity. But only if a decent lease is available. Otherwise it will be back to Leaf or some other "inexspensive" EV.

+1 the Leaf is my "starter" electric - if it works out, we'll see what else is available (and debugged) in 3-5 years.

I didn't 'reserve' a Tesla S sedan in advance (although savings interest rates are very poor; couldn't see parking $5,000 for as long as it will take for these to be actually become available) they are holding 'private' events for those who have reserved one in various cities ... gosh darn I missed the one in Chicago! Kidding aside, it's a very modern looking car but Tesla is still struggling as with most start-up's. I do wish them the best and perhaps one day we'll see more than just the roadsters out there ...

I'll be VERY surprised if one has actually been delivered by the end of 2012!

I'd be very surprised if it is not !

BTW, I realized S is just too large for us. So we won't be getting it. It is 21 inches longer than Leaf !

http://www.teslamotorsclub.com/showthread.php/2478-Model-S-specs?p=58833&viewfull=1#post58833

Model S : 196 inches - Thats the same length as a Mercedes CLS
Lexus LS460 is 199 inches
Lexus LS460L is 204 inches
Mercedes S550 is 205 inches

.....

In the US, EPA classification goes by interior volume, rather than length.

Here is the vehicle size classification from wiki.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_size_class

Audi A8 is 199" long. E Class is 191". S Class, Cadillac DTS, Lincoln Towncar etc are much larger around 204". Model S seems to be somewhere between the Luxury Mid-Size and Luxury Full Size.

The Model S does seem a little too big for us. We've had both an LS400 and LS430, and after a while that was too much car.

At that length, it would be a very tight fit in my garage... It's tight enough as is with two cars at 175" long and 59" wide in it...

Yes - esp if the charging port is in the front - like some are speculating.

Yeah, we consider our BMW 3 series to be the perfect size at 176' overall and we don't really need or want anything bigger. We actually find the size of the Mini Clubman perfect.

talk about a land yacht. I agree that the 3 series, c class cars are a great size. But I still want to purchase a model S. Perhaps with kids on the way it'll be my minivan.
