2017 Leaf S - I-Key System Fault and LOTS of DTCs

You're lucky! I was having the exact same issues with my 2011 Leaf. It first happened last year during a cold/humid period, and some relay switching around seemed to fix it (a new 12V did not). But it happened again this year with different codes being thrown, and now I can't find a new or used...

    newbie starting & battery issues

Just to chime in, I had the *exact* same issue with my 2011 Leaf. I-key failure, etc. But I had just replaced the 12V battery and that didn't stop it. The mechanic first switched some of the relays in the IPDM (i.e. switching out the flaky one for the one that controlled the rear windshield...

How to harvest a 2011 Leaf Battery for home power backup

Hi all, This isn't about solar (at least initially) but hopefully the closest group in which to post. My 2011 Leaf is dead, and I want to harvest the battery to use as a power backup for key systems in my house during (frequent in Quebec) power outages. But I'm only just now appreciating that...

2011 Leaf turned on on its own, says "I-Key system fault" and won't turn off

Thank you so much for this. When I asked Nissan about just replacing the relay they said the relays "are not identified" and they wouldn't recommend changing it as it could fry the whole module. Given your link above, this sounds suspect. But then again i called DigiKey directly and they...

2011 Leaf turned on on its own, says "I-Key system fault" and won't turn off

Nissan said the relays were stuck. Hard for them to reset. Car is running but they can't guarantee they won't get stuck again. Recommending a complete replacement of the IPBM relay (for engine control) at a cool $1K. I just sank a grand into replacing the control arms, on top of other stuff...

2011 Leaf turned on on its own, says "I-Key system fault" and won't turn off

It came from another province that also requires daytime running lights, so I don't think they had to do anything different.

2011 Leaf turned on on its own, says "I-Key system fault" and won't turn off

Arg. It turned itself on again. More specifically just the head and tail lights. I tried all kinds of permutations. I can either turn off the 'engine' but the external lights flick on. Or I can turn off the lights but the car is in "idle". I chose to latter figuring it was using less of the...

    Repeated front suspension issues

I recently had to have both control arms replaced on my 2011. Now roads around here eat cars for breakfast. I also bought it used, and the suspension feels noticeably better after that fix then when I first inherited it -- maybe an issue to do with previous owner?

2011 Leaf turned on on its own, says "I-Key system fault" and won't turn off

Hi all. Thanks for your help. This morning I tried to turn the car on and it did, and after clearing the i-key error code I drove around my neighbourhood streets for a while to send more juice to the 12V battery. All seemed to operate normally with one exception: the li-ion battery temperature...

2011 Leaf turned on on its own, says "I-Key system fault" and won't turn off

Hi all. So I looked outside and saw my car's rear tail lights were on. When I went to investigate the panel showed "I-key system fault. Visit Dealer". I tried to turn the car off, but this only turned it more fully on, and I am unable to turn it off. At the time it was plugged in but...

2011 Leaf sat for 5 weeks, now shows no signs of life

Hi - my 2011 sat outside (in full summer sun) for 5 weeks while I was recovering from surgery. I left it plugged in for the first couple weeks (I had other things on my mind) then unplugged it (sitting at 80% charge in theory). I tried today to see where it was at, and there are no signs of...

Sudden Turtle Mode in Very Cold Weather

Hi.. just to add to this old thread, I have also twice had turtle icon pop up when driving on the highway in very cold weather (-20 degrees celsius). At first I worried the car would lose power, but nothing really happened.... I still chirped along at 90km/hour, and my range remained where it...

Rear-ended by an SUV and survived

Just got back from the auto body shop. It is repairable, so I will get to keep my trusty old Leaf! She is tougher than she looks!

Rear-ended by an SUV and survived

Hi... So my 2011 Leaf was rear-ended by a Jeep Cherokee yesterday. The Jeep had it's front wheels bent such that that police officer said it had to be towed. My car was damaged significantly but able to drive off. Mostly just sharing because there is something poetic about this! :) (Mind...

2011 not charging with EVSE - left light solid blue

Now getting off topic, but put it this way: being a petit female means the frequency of people trying to pull fast ones may be a bit higher. Whether they succeed or not is indeed a function of what's between the ears 8-) But the added effort is a drain on my own batteries. Nonetheless, thanks...
