    2017 MY Nissan LEAF

Our 2011 with 10 bars currently would barely go 40 miles in our snowy cold temps. We can't get to the airport and back (50 mile round trip) without a charging session. Over the summer we hit LBW several miles from home under ideal conditions. 200 mile range really means about 120 miles...

Price to retrofit a used 2011-2015 Leaf with a new 30 kWh (or higher) battery?

Hopefully they will at least change their tune and allow 2011-2015 MY's to receive 30kWh packs in the first place. Didn't some of the class action language require they use the current production packs for replacements? Shouldn't there still be a bunch of 2012's that have yet to age-out of...

Exactly HOW BAD is quick charge?

Not bad. There was a nice side by side government study with 4 leafs. Two were ALWAYS quick charged, the other two just level 2. Quick charging had just a couple percent more loss 27 vs 25%, or along those lines.

Legality on plugging in in a non EV designated plug. What's the law?

+1 Nobody thinks it is OK to setup a lawn chair and hang out on someone elses lawn. I should not need to have a fence for you to realize that my backyard is private property. It would never be OK to use someones hose to fill up your water jug just because their spigot has no lock. Folks with...

The Arcimoto SRK, A Perfect Fit For Relocalized Cities

It is a lot less safe than a car. The back passenger has almost zero protection from being rear-ended. A lot of folks are counting their autonomous eggs before they hatch. Even if every car sold today was autonomous we would have to wait about 20-25 years before manual cars were a rare sight...

The Arcimoto SRK, A Perfect Fit For Relocalized Cities

I like having crumple zones. 3 wheel vehicles are exempt from all sorts of safety regulations, basically treated to be motorcycles. Without all those tests to pass they can readily be much more efficient. In a world ever more filled with SUV's I will opt for 4 wheel vehicles that have a...

    charger sleeve through garage wall

You won me over. I will never call it an EVSE again. I will also not stay off your lawn anymore. EVSE is a poor acronym (does not roll off the tongue, similar to ChaDeMo or whatever the hell it is), charger while incorrect, gets the job done so much more easily. I am officially ceasing my...

Are you planning to reserve Tesla Model 3 ?

Current Leaf should keep me going for another 5-6 years easily. At that point I'll keep an eye out for a used Model 3 or similar. The wife's 2004 Focus is the wild card, it might be toast in a year, maybe 5 at most. She needs more than the Leaf range often enough that a used Prius or similar...

grabby brake issue - TSBs, workarounds, suggestions

His suggestion is to disengage the motor so you don't get regen braking, nothing dangerous at all. You can shift into reverse at any speed above something like 8 mph, it just puts the car into neutral and beeps at you. No damage. I've done it several times. Or you can hold the puck in the...

    Battery issues

Buy a fresh battery when it becomes too unbearable, other than that... You can try small claims, I think there is at least one person who eluded to some success going that direction but they were coy. Perhaps there was an NDA involved...

    Nissan: We Can Match Bolt

Our 11 bar Leaf already hits LBW gently driving to the Airport to get Grandma and back (56 miles round trip) in warm weather, and requires plugging in for an hour at the airport if it is cold and wet like it has for the last 5 months or we get down to --- which is not my preferred kind of...

    Nissan: We Can Match Bolt

Most folks don't make a lot of road trips per year. In our family we do about 3 per year over a couple hundred miles. I find that 2-3 hours is an optimum point to take rest breaks, usually the 5 minute gas stops are not enough if I am doing an 800+ mile day. So I usually stop for at least 15...

    Nissan: We Can Match Bolt

Vaporware is something that has been announced, but I cannot buy yet. It is real once it arrives at a dealer, or at least once production worthy units are test drivable by the press. Vaporware is a software term, so not the best fit when describing cars. The Bolt is arguably still vaporware...

    Chevrolet Bolt & Bolt EUV

I've stated before that counter intuitively the larger your battery the LOWER the charge rate can be for most folks. Anything under about a 50 kW charge rate is useless for any road trip, as you end up spending more than a third of your time sitting at a charger. A high rate L2 lets you nickel...
