What's the thing you hate most about your Leaf?

I still am disappointed with the range of the LEAF. I have a I-MiEV along with the LEAF and they are only a few miles apart in range. I test drove a Tesla model S the other day and was happy to find an option to turn off the "creep" of the vehicle if you desire. Anybody who thinks that...

MY2014 no more 80% charge option?

I have never understood how cell equalization takes place at less then a 100% charge. It seems to start at about 98% and then continues at a lower charge current until 100% is reached. I don't think running to 80% charge ever gets the equalization process started. Maybe this is part of the...

    Synthetic/lower viscousity oil for winter?

The GM Ev-1 and the S10-E trucks used a very low viscosity oil in the reduction gear. It was a synthetic oil that (on the bottle) claimed "for electric vehicles, reduces viscous drag, increases vehicle range". The viscosity is about the same as water. Although I have never put it in my LEAF...

    2013 vs 2011-12 door weight?

I don't know how much the doors weigh, however after having owned LEAF's with aluminum doors and now steel, I prefer the steel doors. They feel more "solid" and might hold up better against door dings. On the other end, the weight of the steel hood is enough to make it very noticable vs. the...

what is the cost at .0875kwh for 120/9hrs compared to 24/3h

I looked up the OP's other posts on this forum. He owns a 2013 LEAF with the 6.6 KW charger. In an earlier post he states he is using L1 charging. Another post talks about a $649 L2 EVSE and trying to figure out which way is cheaper to charge. Soooo----He needs to look at the costs for the...

what is the cost at .0875kwh for 120/9hrs compared to 24/3h

What are you trying to figure out here? Are you trying to figure out L1 (120v) for 9 hours vs. L2 (24?v) for 3 hours? If it's something like that you are looking for, L2 is more efficient then L1 charging as the parasitic losses in the LEAF are the same on either L1 or L2 so the shorter...

Gasoline May Rise Above $5 a Gallon

The market will dictate who buys what. Sure, fuel prices are dropping but we are starting to export refined products (like diesel). Don't expect big oil to give the US consumer a windfall from falling feedstock prices. Low energy costs impact everything and if you can reduce the cost of...

    Thoughts on ethanol-free gasoline?

If you add a ignition system, you are no longer running on the "diesel" cycle. The fuel economy drop from diesel fuel to Ethanol (energy per gallon) and the loss of the efficiency of the compression-ignition diesel cycle would be horrendous.

Is the "plug-in" era nearly over?

I owned a couple of cars with GM "Magnachargers" that were inductively coupled to the vehicle (via a paddle). The expense of the transmitter to generate the HF power for the paddle and the receiver to get it back to something the vehicle charger could use along with the physical size and power...

IEEE article;solar power 'counter-revolution' from utilities

When I used to watch demand, the noon dip used to be because many small and medium sized shops (factories) shut down their machinery for lunch. The highest demand was just after lunch when they started back up tapering off until a big drop at 5:00. Then you would pick up a little as people got...

    2013 Leaf rear bumper misaligned!?

The fit and finish on the '013 is horrible compared to the earlier LEAF's. My 2013 had to go to a body shop just to get the rear door to fit so the seals would contact the body. They got it resolved. My rear bumper fits OK but on the passenger side it rubs on the tail light and squeaks if you...

    Price for traction battery pack?

If anybody ever comes up with a price for a battery pack it will most likely be a jaw dropper. Other then the LEAF I have a I-MiEV. I found that Mitsubishi doesn't have a price for a pack nor will they sell any parts within or attached to the pack. As all cars are on warranty (at this time)...

    redesign the shifter

I don't see any problem with the shifter on the LEAF. Seems to work just fine. If you want a car with a Quirky shifter---drive a I-MiEV. It's fun to drive a left hand drive car with a right hand drive car shifter.

    Curly wire in charging door

The curly wire goes to the light on the door so you can see the charge port in the dark. Many on this forum asked for it and Nissan put it in. The location of the wire is kind of cheesy but it works. I would think you would have to do a lot of charges before you would ever wear through the...

Bad Power Distribution Module? Check In Here

There should be no problem with getting the update without a warning light or DTC found. I asked my dealer to be proactive about the update and one phone call to Nissan and the update was done. Why replace the PDM if you could possibly avoid it with a software update?
