, This just happened. I’ve had the car since July and when I put it in reverse now, this happens.

sometimes when it’s not pink it is glitching or looking like an old TV with a vertical hold that doesn’t work

I’ve been told it’s easy to install a new back up camera. Any suggestions? Links to forums or videos?

My backup camera was flaky and would come back to life if I slammed the hatch. So i knew the problem was related to an intermittent fault. I pulled the interior hatch panels (found a YouTube to help the disassembly) and then used CRC-QD contact cleaner on all the connectors that are part of the wiring harness to the camera. Its been good now for the 10 months since I did it. Many electrical problems are due to connections that just need cleaning and 'exercise' by disconnecting and reconnecting a connector pair, as oxidation can build up on the mating surfaces. You might try rapping on the hatch to see if yours is also intermittent.

I think it's just poor design, we've had it repaired or told by the techs that they couldn't find the problem; when they replaced the camera it still does the same thing from time to time

I think I probably watched the same video. He made it sound easy and then I watched the video and I thought gosh,I have to take all those inside panels out. I’m sure I will break a clip. I’ll try the slamming the trunk a few times. (Give it the Fonzie touch.)

Daughter's Leaf has the same issue - apparently not rare. I have not looked into it though. Ours is fine.

I have been having this issue since I bought my 2019 Leaf. There was a recall for the same exact issue for certain vin numbers that apparently did not include mine. Dealership would not correct it since it's intermittent. There was even one time I drove right to the dealership once it happened and the service advisor saw it and took video footage of it and by the time the techs got to it, they said they couldn't replicate the issue. I do notice it happens more often when it rains. I even called Nissan corporate to complain and they didn't want to do anything with it either. I even told them it's a known issue that many people complain about and that they should do more.

Well, I’d like to think I have something to do with this. Just got a notice from my CARFAX Progressive app that there is a Nissan recall for the back up camera. I sent screenshots from this forum and a photo of my back up camera to Nissan, USA on Twitter and a direct message. Lo and behold… There’s now a recall for it!

I just got that CARFAX-induced notice of the NHTSA/Nissan Recall R23D7

"Summary

Over time, the rear view camera harness within the affected vehicles could become damaged from harness movement and vibration during vehicle or manual hatch operation

Risk

If the rear view camera harness becomes damaged, the backup camera display image could become blurry, distorted, multi-colored or blank screen, or may start playing the latest episode of "Young Sheldon". ... If this condition occurs, it may not comply with FMVSS 111 s.5.5 Rear Visibility. If the rear view image is not available, rearward visibility may be reduced, potentially increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Nissan is currently developing a remedy plan."

I had another wiring problem recently, where the charge door will not flip open when I hit the realease button or the remote one.
I looked under the hood, and a wire is dangling, severed, where the factory had kinked the small wiring harness and it finally broke due to vibration after 2 years.

I think they have a remedy now because the recall is already loaded to the various dealerships and I was able to schedule an appointment to get it fixed. My VIN was included.

Edit: seems like a glitch. Dealership told me that there’s no fix yet.

We had a 2020 LEAF SV and the Camera display turned pink. I took a picture of the display when the Camera was in the failed state. Nissan told us it is a known issue and replaced the Camera? All good. We don't have the LEAF anymore but our Dealer was excellent. Beaverton Nissan.
