Has anybody replaced the front wheel bearings DIY?

Has anybody replaced the front wheel bearings yourself? If you have: is it doable, yay or nay? Thank you! I've worked on all my cars: brake pads & rotors, replacing springs, struts, and shocks; installing anti-roll bars, which on a 1995 GTI VR6 required drilling through the 1/4" steel beam...

Request for research from Technische Universität München?

Just got this PM: Before I respond, anybody else got the same thing? A quick Google shows there is a "Technische Universität München" that offers a "Masterstudiengang Consumer Affairs", though I don't suppose that's saying much...

Extra forward underbody piece on newer LEAFs?

Continued from "DIY Horn Upgrade Mod - Updated Jan 12": That's interesting. Older LEAF's don't have that "honeycomb" piece. My LEAF doesn't have it (VIN 1333, delivered 4/2011). Tony Williams' pics, from his "Underneath the Beast; a Tour of the Dark Side" post, also does not show that piece...

My pics from National Plug-In Day, Austin, TX

Here are some pics from the National Plug-In Day gathering in Austin, TX. There may have been more home built EVs there than "store bought" ones: electric Suzuki Katana, Boxster, bug-eye Sprite, Toy MR2, etc.! I also took a couple of pics of a Ford Focus EV.

Something not in the owner's manual

The LEAF has a "sunload sensor" at the front of the dash on the passenger side (Nissan LEAF Service Manual, page HAC-137). It senses, well, the sun, and is of one the inputs into the automatic climate control. Regarding its operation (Nissan LEAF Service Manual, page HAC-15): "When the sunload...

How accurate are the "energy economy" figures?

How does the LEAF measure power usage? Would it be anything like how my utility meter knows how much electricity I use? How accurate is the power usage measurement? What I actually would like to know is, how accurate are the "energy economy" figures? If the display says "3.8 mi/kWh", have I...

Do you know what to do?

You've just driven into a car wash. The car is in position on the rail. The wheel rollers have just engaged. You need to put the car into neutral now. Do you know what to do? Push the mouse shifter to the left and HOLD it there for a couple of seconds.

Power consumption of brake's back-up power capacitor?

Ingineer posted this pic a while back, saying "It's the Panasonic brake backup supercapacitor assembly. Very similar to what's in the Prius, only larger." Presumably, the capacitor powers the electrically actuated parking/emergency brake in cases when there is no power from the main battery (or...

HELP: OEM EVSE tripping outlet's GFCI

So I picked up my LEAF today :D, drove around a whole bunch, came home, plugged the car into an 120V outlet (with GFCI) in the garage to charge. The EVSE's charge light would go on, but within less than a minute, the GFCI would trip :( . This happens consistently. Should that be happening...

FYI: LEAF service manual missing sections

On Sunday, I paid the $19.99 to access the LEAF service manual. There are two sections missing: "B: ENGINE" and "O: CRUISE CONTROL & DRIVER ASSISTANCE". I do not know if the chapters were unavailable only temporarily or not. Has anybody who paid to access the service manual not got access to...

Fed tax credit for Ingineer's "L1 EVSE -> 120/240" upgrade?

I started a new subject for this so as to not pollute the original thread ("Nissan L1 EVSE third-party upgrade to both 120V and 240V") which should probably remain purely technical. Any prognostication as to whether Ingineer's "L1 EVSE -> 120/240" upgrade would qualify for the EVSE Fed tax...

LEAF's "gradual capacity loss NOT covered" battery warranty

I dunno know if this belongs here in "General / Main Owners Forum" or in "Range / Efficiency / Carwings" or in "Batteries & Charging", but, here goes. I was having a bit of a "discussion" with an EV skeptic who asked how long the battery lasts. I trotted out the party line of "80% capacity...
