I just bought a used Leaf after two years of Tesla Model S ownership. Bought it as a third car. So far, I can see why people are frustrated with the range. You really must change your driving habits when driving the Leaf. With my Model S I can drive it 90 mph all day long without too much impact...
Not much different from a manual transmission car. Engine braking in lower gears on my 550i is like deploying a boat anchor. Drivers behind me are seldom amused by this.
Given current discounts, the real cost of the extra 25% range is about $10k.
I suspect for vast majority of buyers it will be worth it.
