    So long, and thanks!

I returned my 2012 Cayenne Red Leaf today at the end of its 3 year lease. 13,300 miles (it ended up being a high school commuter for my kids). Lost one bar (Plano, TX). It had a great run. After an initial DC quick charge failure that took a few days of diagnosing and ended up being a bent...

First EVGo quick charge experience (failure)

I believe that if your charge level before you start is below 50%, it stops at 80-90%. If you start with your car already charged above 50%, it will go all the way. So, you can just start a second charge to top it off if you need to.

    Capacity Loss on 2011-2012 LEAFs

Not sure if this qualifies as early, but... Lost a bar after 8.8k miles, 19 months. Leaf lives in Plano, TX and was subjected to some early fast charging experiments (really just one day where I did 5 DC charges but didn't hit temperature limits on battery). Survived 2 very hot Dallas...

I can hook you up with a charge...

ECOtality News 8/12/13 - DOE Stops payments

Can't think of many places with Blink chargers in my area that I would want to stay for more than 3 hours (movie theater comes closest). I wonder if they really wouldn't sell you that plan for a Leaf without the quick charge capability.

ECOtality News 8/12/13 - DOE Stops payments

By the way evGo has a $5/month plan for L2 charging only for cars that don't have DC capability. Not that many locations but if one happened to be where you could use it regularly, that seems like a good deal. When they were talking about it I thought it would be at least $10/month.

ECOtality News 8/12/13 - DOE Stops payments

I'm not complaining, and I'm not using public stations (other than the evGo DC fast charging network). If your argument is correct that is another reason that a public 240V charging infrastructure like Blinks should fail. If it is only there for emergencies, then putting them all over the...

ECOtality News 8/12/13 - DOE Stops payments

That is exactly what is happening. People aren't using it. I've had a Leaf for over year and paid way to much for an evGo membership in order to support the infrastructure, but DC fast charging has a been awesome and allowed me to go all over the metroplex all electric. No way I got my moneys...

ECOtality News 8/12/13 - DOE Stops payments

The mindset isn't so much that charging should be free, it is that it should be less expensive than former means of transportation. If driving my Volt 40 miles costs 1 gallon of gas and driving my Volt 40 miles on electricity costs 13kWh of electricity (4 hours of charging), then charging needs...

What does it cost to have a solar setup?

I started looking at a system just to charge the Leaf, but then added 2 Volts. I ended up with a 6kW system for just under $10K as a prepaid 20 year lease. The economics of a smaller or even a larger system didn't make sense, we had to find the sweet spot with regard to cost/benefit. Since...

    Those Blink SD card failures

I have two Blinks, both had the "SD card failure" within one month of each other after about 6 months of service. They were sequential serial numbers so surely used the same batch of SD cards.

    ECO Mode Reliability

Since regenerative braking is used when you use the brake pedal too, I doubt it makes a huge difference, unless you always mash the brakes and go straight to traditional braking in which case you would use the regenerative braking a bit less.

    DFW Metroplex

eVgo is planning to build a string of charging stations between Dallas and Houston. Of course Volts already have a solution for trip traveling ;)

Does having a Leaf as 3rd car make sense?

I got the Leaf as my first car. It quickly became my 3rd (daughter uses it) but only because 2 Volts stepped in front of it. We have a 4th car, a Mercedes SUV that sits in the driveway and drains its 12V battery. I have to recharge the 12V in the SUV as often as we buy gas for the Volts (if...

Leaf disables Apple Airport wireless internet connection

A garage door opener can cause wifi interference but shouldn't do anything that would cause a wireless base station to require rebooting. That is the only think I can think of that could interact with a wifi network that would be related to driving your car.
