Hi all,

Looking to invest in a Leaf and I am trying to learn everything about the car before committing.

As in the title, I have two Leafs I am comparing: 2020 Leaf with 75,000km VS 2018 Leaf with 35,000km

Is there a general rule which one is "better"? Lower mileage? Or lower age?
OR
Neither and I should focus solely on the battery health information.

Other factors:
* The 2018 with such low kms might seem to good to be true BUT the state of health is listed as 12 bars / 92.35%.
* Also the 2020 will still have manufacturers warranty until 2025 (I don't have the state of health information for it).

Thank you

Hi there,

When comparing two used Leafs, it's a good idea to consider various factors. Both mileage and age are important, but neither is solely determinative. You should also focus on battery health, as you mentioned. Here are some thoughts:

1. **Mileage vs. Age**: Lower mileage is generally preferable because it implies less wear and tear on the car. However, the difference in age isn't significant between a 2018 and a 2020 model. The 2018 with low mileage seems like a good option in this regard.

2. **Battery Health**: Battery health is crucial for an electric car. A Leaf with 12 bars and 92.35% state of health is in good shape, which makes the 2018 model attractive.

3. **Warranty**: The 2020 Leaf having the manufacturer's warranty until 2025 is a significant advantage, as it provides peace of mind for potential issues in the future.

Consider your priorities, driving habits, and budget to make the best decision. It's always a good idea to have a trusted mechanic or an electric vehicle specialist inspect the car before making a final decision.

Good luck with your decision!

The 2018 Leaf has lower mileage than the 2020 Leaf. However, the 2018 Leaf also has a lower battery health rating. This means that the battery in the 2018 Leaf is not holding a charge as well as the battery in the 2020 Leaf. This could be a problem if you plan on using the car for long distances.

The 2020 Leaf also has a longer manufacturer's warranty than the 2018 Leaf. This means that you will be covered for repairs for a longer period of time. This could be a valuable benefit if you are concerned about the cost of repairs.

Here is a table comparison of each car:

Car Pros Cons
2018 Leaf Lower mileage Lower battery health rating
2020 Leaf Longer manufacturer's warranty Higher mileage

Hi. I've had 5 Leafs. None of them ever showed a lost bar... Even though my 2013 was at 65% when I eventually sold it. It still showed 12 bars. My '18 SL showed 12 bars up to and after the battery failed. This is because Nissan bases the warranty on that lying little dash indicator. You can't trust ANYTHING the dash tells you! Hmm, I've had 2 Leafs and seen others and the bars never "lied" in that way...

Exactly same here, i have Leaf MY2018 and tested the battery capacity to be somewhere around 28kWh. It still shows 12/12 bars and based on that i have been shown finger by two authorised resellers trying to claim the warranty. Never trust before reading the manual like me. Obviously there are no physicists byt business men in Nissan and capacity means just 'bars' to them... feeling very disappointed :/

I had an 18 that dropped to 78% and still showed 12/12 bars. 3 dealers likewise told me to go kick rocks. One even said, and I quote, "It charges, it's drives, we're done here."
