My wife and I flew out of Oakland airport on Friday August 31st and parked at Expresso Parking. I have parked my LEAF there before because they offer a "Juice Bar" free with valet (coupons online) but for other reasons we took our ICE instead and parked outside. However, when we were inside waiting for the shuttle there was a fleet of about 30 BMW Active-E's parked inside near a brand new bank of 10'ish AV Level 2 EVSEs. The cars were stacked 3 deep against each L2.

When we returned last night (Wednesday 9/5) all of the parking spaces in front of the AV L2s were empty and there was only 1 BMW Active-E parked at one of the 3 Juice Bar L2s.

Now sure what that was all about but thought I'd share. Sorry but I didn't have a chance to snap a pic - had to catch our shuttle to and fro the airport.

"DriveNow which launched in June in San Francisco is a flexible, premium car-sharing program offering the opportunity to drive BMW's first all-electric vehicle, the BMW ActiveE with zero emission driving. The fleet of 70 ActiveE vehicles is located at eight DriveNow Stations around San Francisco, with two additional stations in Palo Alto and at the San Francisco International Airport coming soon. After registering online or in-person, customers can locate and book an available car using the DriveNow web site or mobile app. They can then return the car to the same -- or any other -- DriveNow Station, allowing for convenient one-way trips, if desired. Stations are located around the city, close to BART, MUNI and bike-sharing stations."

Oh, you beat me to it... Was about to post this:

@ExpressoParking: it's BMW's Electric Car sharing program that will be rolled out in the Bay Area soon. Stay tuned for details.

You know I did hear about this Drive Now program but I didn't make the connection when I saw them. They must be ramping up for an Oakland Airport presence through Expresso Parking, seeing as how they installed so many L2s there.

...Because lithium-ion batteries are so temperature-sensitive, BMW developed a new management system with a ‘Smart Function’ that warms the battery pack remotely, resulting in less loss...
