usually up to 122°F and you start running away at 135°F

Actually, when the batteries reach 123 degrees, it will shut down the LEAF immediately. If you are driving, turtle appears and then it instantly shuts down. Again, the techs that tested these batteries in the AZ heat told me that.
Did the ambient temperature get close to 123 this summer in Phoenix?

It would have to be at or above that temperature for some time for the battery to be affected since it has considerable thermal mass and gains (or looses) temperature slowly.

Depends - how close to 123 is 118°? ;)

Record High of 118° on July 2

Record High of 117° on August 26

Thank you Andy. It did not occur me to try to look that information up. I do wonder what the battery temperature was during that time.

Keep in mind that temps on a parking lot will be significantly higher than the official weather stations in the middle of the day as well... I would opt to park near the edges of a parking lot near vegetation if I had a choice in extreme heat.

Glad to help, Shay. Looking that up brought back memories of living in Tucson. ;)

It didn't take the techs that long this summer to get the battery pack to 123. Added to parking in the sun, they were multiple QCing which will raise the battery pack pretty fast too when you have the added ambient heat.

Been here since late 2001 - USAF transplant. Retired in '04 and decided to stick around for a bit. It's not as hot as Tucson, but the cross country skiing is just as...sparce.
