Anyone else participating in this? I registered all 5 of my vehicles. Got approved to participate with three of them including the LEAF. One day travel diary, seven days having GPS and OBD sensors in the car. Complete the travel diary input on line. Next week I mail the sensors back (Fed-Ex prepaid). Then I get a check for $120. Not bad. :D

Sounds like one that I did a few months back. It was supported by So Cal Edison and another entity, can't remember who right now. We only have two cars and I seem to recall the payment being a bit lower than yours. It wasn't much hassle as I recall. I just had to make sure that the correct gps and obd sensors were plugged in to the correspounding car as instructed. Shipping them back was no big deal either, as I recall.

Nope. News to me. Who is the research company?
Looks like it's related to this: http://www.dot.ca.gov/hq/tsip/otfa/tab/chts_travelsurvey.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

That is indeed the project's Web site.

I wanted to take a minute to amplify what the Web site says: Transportation engineers like me use the data daily to forecast traffic. The data from this project and others like it are critical to properly planning transportation infrastructure investments. The value of good household travel data to my industry is, perhaps, only partly reflected in the amount being paid out to people to participate.

Actually, it is being sponsored by UC Davis and adminsitered through this,http://www.catravelsurvey.com/welcome.aspx, web site.

I did the initial phone survey and the one day travel log that they mailed to me (didn't get any money for it). The paperwork mentions posible future phases (GPS, etc) but I've not been offered to participate yet.

Yeah, I'm doing it this week for my LEAF and for the gas car. Just plug in the GPS in both cars and the OBD in the gas car and leave them plugged in for 7 days. Then you keep a travel diary for a 24 hour period only for each member in the household. While the travel diary is relatively involved, it's only for 1 day (not the whole 7 days), so not too bad.

I received the email today, and filled out the survey which took me 20+ mins
to complete. I'll supposedly be receiving 3 GPSs/OBD sensors soon for
participation in January.

The payout is not huge for the time that will probably be spent on this,
but I usually enjoy the experience. At least I don't have to travel outside
of my normal route in order to participate.
