Can you put a cover over a heated steering wheel?

Good evening all. Can I install a leather steering wheel cover over the heated steering wheel in my '13 SL without causing something to overheat or causing a temp sensor to blow? I am just used to a thicker steering wheel, grabbed mine off the vehicle I traded in on my Leaf and am now wondering if I shouldn't install it. Thank you for your feedback.
