sorry but this place is false advertising. they started advertising battery packs 2 years ago at the SAME price. so tread VERY lightly if you do business with them

Site is run by a local Nissan dealership. so I don't think the amount of caution you seem to be recommending is all that warranted. I would recommend a normal amount of due diligence, the same you'd use with any vendor. Yes, the price may be wrong. Yes, they may not be able to deliver at the price quoted. But then, they may also be able to. YMMV.

well, easy enough to check out. several here live in the near vicinity. so who has seen this price in person?

**edit** guess ^^^^ price is for local pickup cause when I order one

Battery
Leaf 5/11
ELECTRIC PROPULSION SYSTEM »Traction Motor Components
Nissan › Leaf › 2011
List Price : $5,435.20
Your Price : $4,348.16

then add $500 shipping so ya, i guess its a bit cheaper but I find this site to be just as confusing as it ever was.

what we really need is someone to actually do this to find out what they really have to offer

Here is an update on my replacement order. After several calls to the EV helpline, they have told me that they are in direct contact with the manufacturing facility trying to improve the delivery schedule and will give me a shipping date for the battery on Monday Dec. 8. The good news is that the bracket required to fit the new battery is needed - so I am getting the 2014/2015 model battery. :D But there is a new twist - for some reason Nissan has decided to no longer ship the modification brackets with the new battery. It is now the dealership's responsibility to order these.

EV hotline learned of this and notified the dealership, who had no idea that this was their responsibility. They ordered the parts - 3 different assemblies are required coming from different distribution points. They will receive the last part this Monday. So assuming the battery can be delivered to them next week I should have the new battery installed before Christmas guests arrive.

I suggest anyone having this done make sure that the dealership is aware of the new policy.

I'll send an update when I learn the delivery date of the battery.

Any chance you can get us the parts numbers?

Hmm... I wonder if this is where we start seeing the refurbished to 9 bar packs used for warranty repairs instead of new ones.
That was my first thought, as well. But let's hope it is something simple such as them running low on battery packs and reserving them for production of the 2015s.
According to this post on Dave's blog, it might mean they are waiting for a non-lizard battery to be shipped from Japan. I wonder if it is refurbished rather than new.

Today's update. Betsy at Nissan EV support called yesterday as promised but could not tell me the delivery date of the battery - which was also promised! She said that the one person in all of US Nissan corporate structure that handles replacement battery shipping did not come to work Friday or Monday :x and therefore she could not give me an update. They will call me Wednesday Dec. 10 hopefully with a delivery date.

I reiterated my frustration that I was under 50 mile range and Holiday guests were coming in 2 weeks. She totally understands and I could tell that she too was becoming skeptical about how this was being handled. I told her that this is terrible customer support. Imagine they only have one person in the corporation handling battery replacements and with a dramatically increased delivery time who disappears and there is no one else that can answer the question?!!!!!

Dave's blog is wrong. The tech at the owner's dealer said she's getting a '15 lizard pack from Smyrna, but the hold up is the '11-12 to '13+ battery pack adapter kit required which is out of stock.

Thanks! That's good news!

I guess since the adapter kit is not something found on a production vehicle it can more easily end up in short supply.

The dealership called and said they had received all 3 part orders that comprise the adapter kit. I'll ask them for part numbers and post. No word back on the battery deliver - they said they would call back later today 12-11-14.

Dealership was informed by phone that the battery had shipped and they would receive the battery by Friday Dec. 19th. They set an appointment up with me to install it on Monday Dec. 22. I also learned that they had to order more than 3 parts for for the Modification bracket. I am still trying to get the parts list.

I received the part numbers for the modification required to install the new battery in 2011-12 Leafs:

740D0-3NF1A
01125-N0111
24220-7S020
297C1-3NF0A
748N2-3NF0A
748N3-3NF0A

So we've got 2013 and up undercarriage covers and main pack disconnect switch, a bracket of some kind, then a random clip and bolt. Around $154 list and around $117 through the discounters.

Interesting. Now I've had time to goof with the part numbers some more I find that the covers they are talking about are simply the plastic diffuser doohickeys from the undercarriage (parts 18 & 19 in the link below):

https://www.oemnissanparts.com/parts/2013/Nissan/Leaf/SL?siteid=216018&vehicleid=393384&diagram=3722505&diagramCallOut=18" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It would be interesting to hear what more has to be done with the new battery pack. It's clearly already in it's sealed case from the factory. So I'm assuming it comes with a new yet compatible BMS module (standard 2013 module?) already fitted. I was given to understand that there was a wiring harness change between 2012 and 2013 too, but no mention has been made of this.

Here's an illustration (item #3) of the 2013 disconnect/switch thing:

http://www.quirkparts.com/oe-nissan/297c13nf0a" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The part number for the 2011/2012 may be 297C1-3NA0B. It looks the same until I click on it:

I now believe that this is the main pack safety disconnect and that the differences between the two are either a) serviceable fuse in the old version vs. the new one or b) no fuse at all in the new one (elsewhere in pack?). Thoughts?

Yeah I'm pretty sure the fuse is no longer in the service disconnect.

Good questions. The pics Tony took from Underneath the Beast; a Tour of the Dark Side may be helpful. It appears to me that either the HV cable from the battery to the transaxle would have to be replaced, or a special adapter would have to be inserted in between. But from the parts list, it only appears that the only electrical part is the battery disconnect?

Interesting that the battery undertray panels are not the same, either - and the fasteners, too!

Even if that we're not so, I've now looked at a bunch of 2013 pack pictures and realize there is also a substantial difference in form between the new socket and the old socket, so a definite reason for a different plug.

I may as well add in here since I lost the 12th bar a few weeks ago. Right now have 26,497 miles on the clock. Hx had been below 85% for some time but the bar just recently came off a couple weeks ago. Not sure if I just add it to the Wiki myself, or if we are even keeping track anymore since it is just a matter of when anymore. If I keep the car hopefully I can make the 5 year/60,000 mile cut off for a battery.
