The Dutch Roll-out of the Nissan Leaf has been delayed to Q3 of 2011 for unknown reasons :?: . Portugal and the Netherlands were supposed to be the first EU countries that would have the Nissan Leaf on the streets in Q1 2011 and in the UK in Q2 2011. Many Dutch Nissan Leaf fans are very disappointed and start discussions about buying the Opel Ampera (Chevy Volt) or the Renault ZE Fluence now :x .

Not to anger you further, but the likely cause is higher Japanese and US demand than forecast. Nissan offered reservations in Japan first, US second, Europe third. Higher than expected demand in Japan and US could move the European availability back. Until 2012 there will be only one source for vehicles - Oppama, Japan. Supply is constrained to 50,000 annually, unless they can find a way to exceed initial production estimates. When Smyrna, TN, USA comes online in late 2012, expected capacity will be 150,000 annually additional from Smyrna. This will go a long way toward meeting future demand. Finally, Sunderland, UK will come online in 2013 adding another 50,000 annually.
