Looks like SPX/Coloumb(?) has released a portable charging adapter for about 1000.00. Looks to be a 24A unit similar to EVSE's masterpiece.

2001 Prius ~75,000 miles, 2nd NiMH pack

2010 Prius ~ 23,000 miles

2012 Leaf SL ~900 miles

Low tolerance for on-line flame.

If you know what Gopher was...great!

Looks like you also can get it upgraded to 32 A, but can't find a price.

What I want to know is how you're supposed to keep the portable version of this from being stolen (same goes for Phil's)? Unless you use an extension cord to the outlet, and can put the unit under the hood with the J1772 cord and connector leading out under the car to the receptacle.

It doesn't appear to have a way to lock it, as does the panasonic (through the hole at the J1772 plug) both before and after Phil converts it.

For almost a year, I have used a single 16A upgrade, at home and when travelling, for over 95% of all my charging.

My interest is in a home EVSE I can plug into several 240V receptacles around my home, so I can keep Phil's conversion in my car, for travel charges only.

I'm interested in 32 A, just to "future proof" if I ever get a BEV with a higher amp charger.

I don't think they actually do upgrades. Here's the deal. The unit can be set for 32a, but the J1772 cable and plug are only rated for 30a. You could upgrade the pigtail to the wall pretty easily with parts from any hardware store. Personally, I would find running the 30a J1772 at 32a to be worth trying to see if there's any overheating problems. I would be surprised if there was any problem at all with the extra 2 amps.

Why they didn't instead make the highest setting 30a like all the other EVSEs do, and avoid all this is beyond me.
