I have be calculating some figures for our LEAF and it's MPG equivalent which uses the formula:

Miles per gallon = miles per kw * dollars per gallon / dollars per kw.

That number is easy to calculate since I can get the miles per kw from the car.
What about our Electric Cafe Racer?

After letting the morning coffee work it's magic, I remembered I have a Cycle Analyst and looked up the watts
per mile (got to love this device) which showed 96 WPM on the last trip.

According to my excel calculator it is 301 MPG! Woof!

The left side is the LEAF and the right is the Cafe Racer.

The only other major variable I could think of might be charging efficiency, but I am not sure that would be worth the effort?

If you want to make it even more accurate, here is the excel spread sheet .

Please post your efforts and have fun!

96 Watt-HOURS per mile.

So, your motorcycle gets about 10 miles per kWh,
to compare with the LEAF's 4.2 miles per kWh.

Yes. Which would make sense since it is only 332 lbs (522lbs with me on it).

But if you think the Leaf is bad in cold weather...

... says the guy living in FL!

you just try living in the California Bay Area sometime: heck, where getting down into the low 60'sF this winter! :)

"Well by not accounting for delivery doesn't that just put it on par with gas"

Are we speaking of the "pull the Oil from the ground, transport it to the refinery, use some
of that coal fired electricity to make the gasoline, transport it to the storage depot, transfer it
to the truck (more electricity to run the pump?) and then to yor local Gas station (using gas to
transport it?) where you have to drive to it to refuel" versus "the power plant to your home"
difference? Yea, that should make it close.

Of course I have been charging the bike (and sometimes the LEAF) on solar.... but that would throw a
wrench in to all of their (the folks that like to tell me that Coal fired electricity is worse than gasoline) ideology.

Are we having fun or what! :)

More updated and realistic numbers. I have a home made charger so the efficiency
number may look low, but is correct.
Even with the low charger efficiency the cost per mile tells the story.

How does it look?
