Attend an EV-bike rally in Santa Barbara this Sunday, May 31, to show media, govt and corporations that you won't stand for atrocious oil spills. This event is being organized by the Sierra Club. All details here: http://bit.ly/1HMbiQt" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; with more below from the Sierra Club. If you cannot attend, please spread the word. Thank you!

Dear friends at Plug In America, EAA, and other EV enthusiasts in the Santa Barbara area,

As you may know, there is a rally being planned for this Sunday, May 31 in Santa Barbara in response to the terrible recent oil spill there. See the action alert below that Sierra Club has sent out to our supporters in the area. We're helping to put on this rally, together with other environmental groups in the area. We want policymakers and the media to see that people aren't putting up with these terrible oil drilling and transport projects that are so risky.

The reason I'm reaching out to you is because we want part of the messaging and framing that the media and rally attendees pick up to be along the lines of "We don't need oil! We have ways to get around without oil -like electric vehicles, transit, and biking.”

If any of you are able to attend the rally with your EV (maybe even decorate the car with signs), bring pro EV/anti-oil signs, spread the word to your networks, that would be GREAT! Also, if you have any celebrity contacts who might be able to come, that would be terrific too. Will you let me know if any of that is possible?

If you do come with your EV and/or signs and can take photos, please contact Sierra Club California Director Kathryn Phillips during the rally who will be there and will be glad to connect with you. She's at [email protected] and 916-893-8494 (cell to which you can text her).

Unfortunately, the rally had to be planned quickly, and logistically it won't be possible to have an EV parade or extensive parking areas for EVs. However, here is what we've heard about parking etc:

Green Car & Bike Parade: If you have an electric vehicle or ‘green car,’ please bring it! We will have a bike valet available at De la Guerra plaza. Deck out your bike in bright and festive colors! ‘Green cars’ should park nearby and will be encouraged to regroup at West Beach after the rally. Feel free to put signage on your car! There are charging stations in the harbor parking lot near the beach and also in a parking lot on Figeroa St a few blocks up from De La Guerra Plaza. Upon leaving the rally/plaza, care drivers will have to retrieve their cars from wherever they parked them and make their way down to the beach, at which point they will need to re-park. If drivers DO decide to bring their cars, it is recommended that they adorn them with positive messaging related to green/clean transportation technologies…and preferably take State St. to the beach. But that’s about the extent of it. FYI, there are 10-15 public parking spaces at DLG plaza that are first come, first serve. If drivers get there Sat. night or first thing Sun. morning, they can park there until the rally begins. No guarantees though.
