Hello everyone,

Encountering a puzzling battery issue with my Nissan Leaf 2018 and in need of some guidance. Lately, I've noticed unusual behavior with the battery indicators, showing unexpected discharging and charging while driving. It's leaving me scratching my head and eager for insights from fellow Leaf owners or anyone familiar with electric vehicles. If you've faced a similar dilemma or have expertise in this area, I'd greatly appreciate your input. Let's troubleshoot together and find a solution. Thanks in advance for your help!
I've uploaded a video demonstrating the problem. please click on link.

Thank you in advance for your assistance!

You've got a bad cell, definitely. Try to get a Leaf Spy (free version works for this) screenshot of the cell voltages. I'm pretty sure one of the cells is going to be like 400mV+ off.

If you get this resolved please post it on here!! I'm having the exact same issue. Battery drain is completely normal until it gets.down to 50% then it goes haywire like that!! Has even gone from 49% to the yellow charge now warning on a mile of motorway driving at 60 mph. Mines a 2019 leaf tekna 40kw with 55000 miles and 12 bars. 89% soh on leafspy. I've checked and there's a difference of around 250mv on the Battery screen. Also don't know if.youve tried this, but regen has nothing to do with it for mine at least - I drove on the motorway late at night until the Battery dropped to 18% then forced it into neutral so I was essentially coasting without regen and the Battery quickly returned to 44%. It's like if there's any load on the battery it drops.like crazy but then recovers as soon as that load is stopped.

By the way I've obviously booked the car in with Nissan but since it's been booked for 3 weeks and they can't look at it until May 25th was just wondering if anyone has made any progress on this issue previously!!

Mike ;)

Only real solution is either a manual rebalance of the faulty cell or, if it's damaged, replacement.

Got it! Here's a revised version:

Experiencing some puzzling issues with your Nissan? I've got some intriguing insights to share! After a chat with a Nissan specialist, I learned that oftentimes, the solution might be as straightforward as recalibrating certain components like the ECU after hitting a certain mileage milestone.

Excited to see if this will resolve the nagging issue I've been facing with my own Nissan! I've scheduled an appointment with the specialist for next week, and I'll be sure to keep you all updated on whether it does the trick. Stay tuned!

Feel free to adjust it further to better fit your preferences!

Hey Everon did you get this resolved and if so what was it? Still waiting for my appointment later this month!! 👍👍👍

Update: it's taken 2 MONTHS of arguing with Nissan just to get my car seen by an actual Leaf technician, but it's now in the main battery centre in Gateshead (UK). A tech looked at it and has determined it needs a whole new battery pack replacement!! So not sure how many bad cells constitutes the need for a whole unit replacement but whatever figure it is, I got it!! 😂😂 Tech says there's a 3-4 week wait on new battery units but I'm not optimistic that that's gonna be accurate but in the meantime they've put me in a leaf accenta courtesy car. Wish it was like the US and they'd just offer to buy back the car tbh but can't see that happening 😭😭😭

This is the symptoms of a weak cell such as @mux suggested.

The pack is only as strong and has capacity of the weakest cell.

Well today's a good day! Checked my car in Gateshead yesterday through nissan connect and it was on charge but showing much higher range than previously. Spoke to Gateshead today and they've confirmed that the battery has been replaced with a brand new one from nissan on warranty! Just gotta wait for it to be transported back down to swansea for me to pick it up - result!! 👍👍👍😂😂😂
