Nearly 70 percent of the shoppers had no idea that Nissan makes the Leaf, according to the study. And about 55 percent of those in the market for an electric car also couldn't connect the Leaf's chief rival, the Volt, with Chevrolet.
...
According to the study, a little more than 17 percent of consumers polled knew that Nissan sells the Leaf. Another 13 percent incorrectly believed the car is offered by other brands, including Chevrolet and Toyota.

and they elected Bush twice (with the help of a gooper Supreme Court and vote theft in Ohio*) and think that cutting taxes will help the economy in a recession rather than borrowing money and doing public works.

HT to evnow. yessir.

...and they think you can attach a windmill to the top and charge the car while driving.

But they really, really, really care about murder trials, Paris Hilton and tweeting pictures.

Sounds like a comment from a public sector employee..

"and they elected Bush twice and think that cutting taxes will help the economy in a recession rather than borrowing money and doing public works"

and we ended up with Obama.. God deliver us from smart Presidents!.. at least Obama will replace Carter as the worst president ever, and to think about it, Carter is also a pretty smart fellow?

Operative word "shopper". Not the most informed bunch depending on where they were, like on "Jay Walking".

Have you seen the new GEICO ads?

Well, I guess I will have to wear my LEAF T-shirt more often.

DriveALeafEvent.jpg

I wore it in to Staples a few days ago and the clerk in the print center asked me about the LEAF. I got to talk to her about it for a few minutes and I don't even own one yet! :D

When I wore it at the Drive a LEAF Event in Atlanta one of the Nissan folks asked me if that was my reservation number. I told him, "Yes it is!"

You mean like republican senators, governors & representatives ?

Ofcource, being as "socialist" as Nixon is definitely worse than supporting slavery.

Wow, who are these "shoppers" that they surveyed? It claims that they are people actually looking for EVs. Implying that they are actively shopping. Really? If someone thinks "Hey, I want an electric vehicle, and I heard there are these things out there called a Leaf and a Volt, but who possibly makes them?" what do they then do? Apparently nothing?

I'm wondering if the survey is just a general random piece of garbage sent out to the masses that has these types of questions:
1) Would you ever possibly consider buying an Electric vehicle once the technology is proven to be reliable and safe?
2) Do you know who makes the Leaf?
3) Do you know who makes the Volt?

Then I could understand that. They might possibly have interest in eventually getting an electric vehicle at some point, but they have never looked into it or cared or possibly even thought about it until they read this survey.

Then again, I've been shown again and again why I should NEVER overestimate the intelligence of the general masses.

I'm always blown away by the mentality of car shoppers as well. They (in general) seem to buy cars on impulse, with very little research or knowledge on what they're actually buying. Same with dealers, the sales staff usually has no clue about the vehicles they're selling, even less about the direct competition. It amazes me. Purchasing a car is a big and ongoing expense. You would think people would put a little bit of effort on deciding what they want/need/can afford. <sigh>

(sorry, I'll step down off my soapbox and end my rant now...)

This is my favorite crib about news pieces about suverys. They don't describe the methodology.

Most probably this was a suvery where they asked people whether they had heard of Leaf EV and if the answer was yes, then asked who made the car.

Really? Even THIS thread is jumping on the politics bandwagon? Wow. I would love to see a comparison of number of threads on this board that turn to politics versus the ones that don't. ARE there any that don't?

Probably Mustang and Corvette would fair better to identify the maker but there are many models by each maker that I think would be identified just as poorly.

How true. This is why most dealers love to get people into their showrooms. They know there is a significant chance of any given person leaving the dealership with an impulse buy, often on bad credit.

Most of the general public knows very little about the LEAF or the Volt. Even though I do not watch television, I think Nissan's ad campaign for the LEAF has been a very good thing.

+1 I'm often VERY tempted to respond to the political posts, but I (barely) resist because I don't want the threads to devolve into what often turns into useless political debates.

+1

So far I have mostly refrained in joining the policital aspect of discussions.

I will yield to temptation this time, just this little bit: I just wish the two sides would be a little more accomodating and less hateful of each other. Nothing gets done when politicians stonewall each other. JMHO.. :D

Ummm, I believe Nixon and Reagan already have that distinction as the worst ever. Carter was one of the most honest and best and would have been re-elected if not for Reagan's lies and behind-the-scene shenanigans.

+1. When discussing/debating politics with friends, I have learned to begin with the stated assumption that we both want the best for the country and the planet. That is a constructive and positive way to begin the conversation. After that, it is then more a matter of making sure the facts are mutually known and understood -- instead of the propaganda. ;) I'll stop now, since I'm the one being off topic now!

More on topic now... I know a guy who used to sell cars. One day he told me that his best prospects were always the people who casually came to the lot "just to look" at cars without actually intended to buy one. He had much more success selling to those people than the serious (read: well informed and prepared) shoppers. I think a whole lot of people have more awareness of the color and design of a car than the brand. My better half would agree with that. :) Of course, there are always exceptions!

How could we expect car sales people to know details about electric vehicles when they don't even know about ICE cars. Chevy and Nissan are not hiring from the same pool that the top luxury brands are so I don't really expect to much from the sales dept. Case in point is that I was once at a Ford dealer and when I inquired about safety features of a truck the sales "kid" started telling me about how their cars had this special glass on the windshield that doesn't shatter in an accident. He was making a big deal like it was a selling point. Smack! Ford has been using laminated glass since the 1930's and all cars in the US have had this since 1966....

..and then he started in about it having seat belts (ok this part isn't true)
