is there a way to test the onboard charger and/or the main battery to see which is bad without having to blindly repair or replace parts until the problem is found spending more money then needed?

I hope this isn't too late, yes, you can test the onboard charger and main battery using a multimeter to check for proper voltage and continuity. And using an OBD-II scanner can help retrieve error codes that might indicate where the issue lies. If you're unsure, consulting a professional or a diagnostic service can save you time and money.
