My 2016 leaf has all 12 battery bars but leafspy is telling me that the AHR is 70 and SOH 88

Why this discrepancy?

The battery management system (BMS) may have been reset, to falsely report 12 capacity bars. When this first happens LeafSpy is also fooled, but as the BMS begins to re-learn the actual capacity, LeafSpy becomes effective again. If you bought the car recently, it was likely sold to you under fraudulent circumstances.

12th bar is dropped at about SOH 85%, so 12 capacity bars makes sense.

After a BMS reset SOH will be at or over 100%, so an SOH of 88 does not necessarily indicate a recent reset. However, if SOH is falling rapidly and more than 13% of SOH is lost, then a recent reset is looking very likely. SOH can wander up and down a few percent for various reasons, some known (DCQC) and some unknown.

My 2014 Leaf has SOH of 88 and has all 12 bars.

WetEV is right. I had a Senior Moment about 88% falling within the 12 bar display range. I'm very sorry. Check the SOH again in a few weeks. If it's the same the car is ok. If it's lower than 87% then (and only then) suspect a reset.

Variations of +-2% are fairly common, at least in my experience. Graph SOH for a while. Dropping a percent or two in summer has been common for me, with some recovery in the fall. Dropping more than 3% is pointing at a possible reset. Rapid loss of 10% or more is pretty convincing.
