    Official VW e-Golf thread - $29,815

3 mi/kW-hr would be mediocre, if true... Audi E-Tron territory. Can't the land of Werner von Siemens design a good electric motor anymore? ;)

Buy a ID VW electric after DG?

I was dismayed with VW over dieselgate... but at the moment that the news first hit the airwaves, I happened to be sitting in traffic with the 4" exhaust of a lifted diesel pickup belching right into my driver's window. So while there's some moral guilt for VW's cheating, there's plenty of...

Is there any way to add a cruise control kit to the S?

Well, good work, man. That seems like a pretty definitive result, unfortunately. And, sadly, not too surprising. Thanks for doing the work to test it out!

Is there any way to add a cruise control kit to the S?

Another S owner who wishes that cruise control, a $10 upgrade, was not held ransom to a multi-thousand dollar upgrade package. A vehicle as silent as the Leaf really benefits from cruise for any sort of routine operation on uncrowded freeways, even in the base model. Will be interested in...

    Used 2011-12 Panasonic EVSE?

I'm looking for a 120V EVSE to carry in the car, since the OEM one that came with my 2013 has been Upgraded and I'd prefer to just leave it plugged into the dryer outlet at home. I'm seeing 2011-12 Nissan/Panasonic EVSE's , model 29690 (the "brick"), showing up used on EBay. Anyone bought one...

What does the motor look like inside?

Couldn't agree more, it boggles my mind that Tesla was able to visualize the idea in the 1880s. I often tell people that the induction motor should be the dictionary definition of "elegant"... simple, reliable, efficient, no exotic materials or mechanisms, just pure Maxwell's Equations at work.

    Defrost AND Recirc

I have a 2013 S, so feel lucky that I have the 99%-improved HVAC controls... but there's one little thing that still needs fixing. I'm fine with the idea that pushing the Defrost button (top row center) kicks the system out of Recirc and prevents its use. A one-button, idiot proof, "give me...

What's the thing you hate most about your Leaf?

I don't hate anything about it, but there are a bunch of minor annoyances like not being able to use Recirc and Defrost at the same time, already pointed out in this thread, that bug me too. Purely because they are "unforced" errors, strictly the result of bad design decisions rather than...

I turned off my charge timer

I've noticed the same, and also that the 'early finish' time is somewhat variable. Is it using the extra time for pack balancing? Since this happens between 5 and 6 AM for me, I haven't gone out to look at the KillAWatt yet. I've got the EV A time-of-use rate from PG&E (if memory serves), so...

I'm tired of eco mode in my 2013 Leaf S

Recent 2013 'S' owner here, I put it in Eco before I drove off the dealer lot, and have pretty much had it there since. The driving experience is fine and I don't feel like I'm missing anything. In particular, one-pedal driving suits me and the Eco level of regen is just about the right amount...

    EVSE for Marine-Environment location?

Can anyone suggest EVSE options most likely to hold up in a marine environment? This would be to suggest to management for workplace charging, so L1 or light L2 would be fine. This particular marine environment features blowing salt spray and condensing salt fog in about equal proportions...

L2 vs L1...time and money...charging wise which is cheaper?

Interesting. Is the efficiency loss because the 120V has to go through a boost converter (or some other additional processing step) to charge the ~400V battery? Or is it because there's some fixed ~100W overhead to run the charge system, and the slower 120V charge incurs that overhead for much...

    2013 "s" Climate control question

For another data point, my new S was charging in timer-override mode and I set the climate timer to be ready about an hour after the battery would reach full charge. 30 minutes before the climate-ready time (i.e. 30 minutes after battery-full time), the A/C switched on (it was a warm day)...

Frustrated- pre heat 2013 S (not SV or SL)

Is there any rationale for WHY the car doesn't allow heat unless the battery is actually charging? I can't think of anything... this seems like a pretty clear bug. Can anyone explain why it might be a "feature" instead?
