6600+ ft. of climbing / LEAF in the San Bernardino Mountains

I did my own version of the Pikes Peak Hill Climb back in August a couple of days before the real one. I am lucky enough to live close enough that my back of the envelope calculations made it look just doable. I drove it conservatively, though not necessarily below the speed limit. It was a...

    Sun visor

Has anyone tried these? They look simple but promising. http://www.amazon.com/Gray-Side-window-Visor-Extenders/dp/B002JR949K/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&coliid=I1JH47XJRZ8KNC&colid=11EEH6VRV6PRL

2013 Leaf will add 6.6kW & new efficient heater

I agree almost exactly except for the last statement "Compare to an EV where, absent a strong TOU incentive, most everyone is going to plug in when they get home". I don't do that and I don't have any TOU incentives and have solar to cover the Leaf to boot. I think in the 2 months I've been...

2013 Leaf will add 6.6kW & new efficient heater

I just don't buy this 6-7KW will kill the grid argument. Every time I do the laundry and check out my power usage with my TED, I see my household power spike by just that amount - I have an electric hot water heater and I run my electric dryer. I have a gas oven, but If I had an electric one...

EVSE - credit ... seems to be more complex than simply AMT

Unfortunately, my Leaf finally arrived the middle of January, so I couldn't claim the $7500 credit this year. But with TurboTax, I was able to claim the EVSE credit which in my case worked out to around $900 (complicated installation). So TurboTax will claim the credit in some circumstance, but...

SV buyers: Cheapskate losers or smartest guys in the room?

I find it very useful when backing out of angle-in downtown parking spaces when parked next to a monster SUV. That fisheye lens gets a view of the traffic behind you way before you do sitting in the drivers seat. Still not perfect, but better than backing up blind hoping some there isn't some...

Impression of our new Schneider EVlink

My TED 5000 shows it at 1 Watt.

Do you turn your EVSE off?

I have the Schneider EVLink too and my TED 5000 shows it drawing 1 watt while idle. Probably not much to worry about for energy reasons.

    TAX question of the day....week....year?

I agree. It has cost the taxpayers around $3.7T to fund the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. One could argue that these wars might never have been fought if our oil money did not go to countries and individuals that are unfriendly to us. Oil companies get tax breaks of around $4B / year. How many...

    2011 TAX TIME Questions

This is nothing new. When filling out your federal form, you deduct the state taxes that were withheld / paid that year, but claim any refund that came back as income the next year. This just increases your "refund".

    Delayed Delivery

Mine got delayed from something like December 26, 2011 to actually finally getting delivered on January 14, 2012. I also ordered on first day orders opened in CO. So you're in the ballpark so far. Your might be in transit now. Did you get a VIN yet?

Denver Colorado LEAF Gathering #2: 24 March 2012

Sounds great! Littleton would certainly be the easiest to reach for us folks down in Colorado Springs. Can we assume they'd have a few L2 (or L3) chargers available there? I would definitely need to get to 100% to make it back home again.

    Colorado

I don't think what you're seeing is too far out of line if you are driving at highway speeds, especially with the climate control on. I always see a drop from 80-100 miles down to 30-50 after the first few highway miles at 65-75 MPH. Note the Guess-O-Meter (GOM) gets more accurate as it gets...

The official "I got my Leaf" thread

Finally got mine on Saturday! And got to play in nice cold CO weather too. So far no real snow, but have had to mess with below freezing climate control, range, etc. The dealer said I was their second delivery so far, with more to come. 2012 SL Glacier Pearl Protection Package Splash Guards...

    Winter tires and winter wheels

Speaking from experience, a second set of rims is definitely the way to go. Drive by a tire store the morning of the first real snow of the season - it is packed full of folks waiting to get their tires swapped. You can do it yourself in your garage in half an hour once you've done it a couple...

    Winter tires and winter wheels

Nobody mentions the Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D, but I had these on a 2WD van a few years back and they performed very well. They were better (less "squirmy") on dry pavement than the Blazzaks, seemed to wear better, and were quieter. I plan to get these again for my Leaf when it arrives. Tire...

    2nd LEAF in Colorado?

That location should be doable from Colorado Springs (65 miles). But I would definitely need level 2 or better charging and enough time to replenish a mostly drained battery if I'm to make it back home again. I'm supposed to get my Leaf this week, so February should be a good time. Good idea!

    2nd LEAF in Colorado?

Where at? Is this a public one? Thanks!

    2nd LEAF in Colorado?

Mine slipped to "week of January 13, 2012". I emailed the dealer and he said that a Leaf shipment got held up in Japan for inspections (some of the Leafs were missing the VIN on the transmission) and they checked all 1200 that were waiting to get put on a ship here. This put the cars into the...

    TED!

I finally got around to installing my TED5000 yesterday. 3 MTUs - 1 on the mains, 1 for the electric water heater, and 1 on my Schneider EVSE circuit. I was really surprised the MTU for the EVSE worked - it's 100' away in a separate panel out in the garage. Luckily, I had 2 free slots in both...
