    chademo protocol is now online

Nope. The spec only defines how to implement a charging system. No mention of reverse current flow.

    chademo protocol is now online

I just downloaded it and can confirm it is the full Chademo protocol including a description of the CAN protocol used during the charging session. And while $150 isn't exactly cheep, it's a lot better than the price of admission to the Chademo association formerly required to gain access.

Anybody using BrulTech instead of TED?

I have a Brultech system installed. Happy to answer any questions.

What info would be helpful to you from a high mileage driver

This is exactly my situation as well. I've done the same round trip home to work and back 20 some odd times. The first few times I charged to 100% on each direction, but now stop at about 90%. I'm sure I'd make it on 80% charge, but by the time I get to the destination the remaining charge would...

    Trip to Costco

Unlike most Americans, to me, "threw that out" does not mean stash it away in the garage. Be happy to provide directions to the landfill nearby. As for sun protection, the overhang above the rear hatch does that quite nicely. And I suppose if I had a $1500 laptop (must be an Apple), I'd wanna...

    Trip to Costco

And you still have the "modesty cover" for the trunk. Amazing. I threw that out after the first day. What a useless feature! -Corwin

So, owners what range are you getting ?

Starting SOC : 100% Range (till battery low) : 87 Miles Range (till turtle) : didn't get there, but close I'm certain, 94.6 at end Driving : 90% freeway, but with 1800 foot climb up and back down, hilly terrain in 2nd half of drive This was during rush hour and I kept up with...

I Beat EPA's 73 Mile Range : Report your experience

Today on my commute home I added a bit to test my range. My normal commute is about 60 miles, Foster City to Soquel, but it involves driving Hwy 17 an 1800 feet pass. Today I drove from Foster City to Moss Landing and back to Soquel, a distance of 94.6 miles. At Moss Landing, I just made a...

Charging at work. Yay or Nay?

Yay here too. Fortunately there was a 208v outlet near the rear entrance in our building (and parking close to that) and they punched an outlet through the wall and put a locking cover on it. So I have to use my own portable EVSE, but thanks to Phil (see the EVSE forum) I am able to charge at...

Nissan L1 EVSE third-party upgrade to both 120V and 240V

To all, I highly recommend this upgrade. It works as advertised plus Phil turned my EVSE around in one day! And, the unfinished pig-tails at $20 each are an absolute bargain. Those who think this is an expensive 'mod' really have no clue how little Phil is really making on this; considering...

    Why AC motor and inverter?

As far as I can find, both the Tesla and the Volt use AC induction motors (no rare earth magnets) while the Leaf uses a "permanent magnet AC motor" (what I'm used to calling BLDC (brushless DC)). For a given power rating BLDC tends to be a tad more efficient and more expensive, mostly due to the...

Leaf owners: What ONE thing do you most dislike about it?

Well I've only had mine for less than 24 hours, but by far it's the plastic odor. Seriously, I can hardly breathe in the car when I first get in it. Once I get the outside air moving through it is tolerable. I'm guessing that since no one else is bitching about this, that the plastic interior...

The official "I got my Leaf" thread

And, yet another new Leaf owner here. I picked up mine yesterday from Boardwalk Nissan in Redwood City. I received a very thorough run through by Melina although she was a bit in error on the use of the USB interface and the three charging light indicators. Regardless, there is a lot to...

    Range question

Good point on the wind factor. Perhaps I can find a truck to draft behind... You did just hit on my alternative. The Hwy 17/85/101 route is about 7 miles shorter, puts the one hill early in the drive, and plenty of charging options along the way. But, giving up the most beautiful commute in the...

    Range question

I'm not a fireman, nor the husband of an ex-FBI agent. Heck, I don't even live in Aptos, but close. But the scenario is right. While I see no charging sites anywhere on my commute today, by the time my batteries deteriorate too much, there should be at least one along the route (Half Moon Bay...

    Range question

Actually Hwy 1 between Santa Cruz and Half Moon Bay is a very easy drive with teeny hills and at 6:30am there's very little traffic. I think the key fact so far is the 1000 ft climb equals 5 miles. I should have good regen down the large hill (Hwy 92) as either direction is a good slope for...

    Range question

Hey owners, My commute to work one way is 70 miles, ending at about the same elevation as I start, but along the way, there's 5 or 6 hills of 100-200 feet up/down and then at the 60 mile mark, I have a 900 foot climb and descent. The majority of the drive (45 miles) is a nice two lane road from...
