In the video, "The Making of the Nissan LEAF" (see Pictures, Videos) they quickly show LEAFs being loaded onto the Asian Spirit - IMO 8600208, a cargo ship used to transport new vehicles. You can track this vessel and see its current location at:
http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais/shipdetails.aspx?mmsi=636012362

I'm sure Nissan uses other ships to transport vehicles to the U.S. but this might be a start in our search to find the ship our LEAFs will be on. Any ideas how to find out what other ships Nissan uses?

EDIT: I also found a site that tells of the most recent ports where the ship has docked.

If we can figure out which ships are leaving Oppama in November ...

The nearest port to Oppama plant is Yokosuka.

But the port is consolidated with the nearby huge port of Yokohama in this site.

It seems that the Oppama Plant has its own wharf. See pdf diagram:

Another article about the Oppama plants says:
The facility is located next to the Nissan Research and Development Center, the Oppama Proving Ground and the Oppama Wharf, from which Nissan ships vehicles made at Oppama and Nissan’s other two domestic vehicle assembly plants to other regions of Japan and overseas.

A list of Nissan transport ships appears here: http://www.nissancarrier.co.jp/en/ship_02.html The Andromeda spirit just docked in Los Angeles a few days ago (coincidentally when they notified me of my VIN and delivery date of March 11).

When the ships are out of the range of the AIS system, I find this site to be very helpful: http://www.sailwx.info

You just enter the call sign for the ship and it will plot its location based on the ship's latest weather report, which is typically updated a couple times a day.
