The biggest problem with the Big Sur coast north or Cambria is that there isn't commercial power. If there is power, it's on a generator until the "town" of Big Sur.
San Simeon does have commercial power, and gets you closer to Big Sur: ~ 62 miles. Any particular reason you're holding out for Cambria, 8 miles further south? Have you heard back from the CoC?

I'm not holding out for anything. I'll take what I can get. The Chamber of Commerce has not written back, so I'll have to call.

I was turned down in Lucia, and the resort just north of San Simeon at Ragged Point.

There's a small place named Gorda about 8 miles south of Lucia. I've never stoppped there but there are a couple of cafes and I think a small motel.

There's also the Esalen Institute, a sort of new-age retreat which seems fairly substantial. Strikes me as being fairly exclusive though I really don't know much about it. About 10 mi north of Lucia.

Wiki article on Gorda mentions that they had the highest gas prices in the country ($6.70/gal.) in 2008, partly due to the fact that they subsidize diesel genset power:

Esalen is a very high-end new-age spa/conference center. They would certainly support the idea of the trip, but whether that translates into giving Tony somewhere to charge for a reasonable price, I don't know:

It's 16 miles south of Big Sur, so it could help.

It looks like there are a couple of restaurants that just might be willing to let you pay for a charge and a slice of pie. 101 sure looks like the safer route to me.

I think you should let Andrew McCredie of the Vancouver Sun know you're coming. He would surely be interested, and might be helpful. http://www.vancouversun.com/cars/Living+with+Leaf+months/6677158/story.html

Speaking of newspapers, there are a few small town newspapers along the way which could view your trip as newsworthy. Most of them would have electrical outlets, and I'll bet a fair number of the editors would have a 240V clothes dryer in the garage. A bit of news coverage could be helpful to your mission of promoting QC.

We can do that with the LEAF Energy app for iPhone/iPad; that and more. It also includes adjustments for temperature and heater. How these guys in Switzerland misses such huge impact stuff, but have the "rolling resistance coefficient", I don't know. I guess ICE mentality to EV's.

Tony, GR 3.2 does allow you to adjust for temp and accessory use. You just change the available kWh for temp, age or what have you (I use your chart), and set the accessory use to whatever you think is appropriate for the conditions.

Ok, I'll have to look at it again. It didn't work on my iPad, and I looked at the photos that didn't have any (obvious to me) adjustments for that.

Click on the 'Details' button on the Nissan Leaf, and you can change battery capacity etc. there. Just make sure you click on the 'Refresh' button after you've made all the changes you want, then go back to the main screen.

Nice graphics!

To start the trip, are you actually going to drive the LEAF across the Mexican border and onto the streets of Tijuana?

Sure, why not? A few tacos, and a flat Pepsi, and return.

I think I'll go to the Nissan dealer in TJ.
