As many of us know, Carwings is updated quarterly. A little birdie told me the next update is on Aug 5th, just two weeks away. So you can soon expect to see more charging locations in the nav. Unfortunately, however, they do not intend to include any of the Chargepoint stations in the update.

imo - this is disturbing. It means that CHademo locations will likely be excluded as well because for the most part, it will be other companies (like Walgreens) doing those installs. It'll be up to drivers to obtain those locations on their own (like when you actually hook up at the new location).

Apparently they suffer from the NIH factor... Not Invented Here.

Before I purchased the car I was under the impression that when someone charges at a given location, the car uploads the location to Nissan's server, and once several drivers have charged there, the location is automatically added to the Carwings update. So new charging stations are automatically crowd-sourced. But apparently that is not the case.

Why not give them a quick phone call so they know how their customers feel about this: 1-877-NO-GAS-EV (1-877-664-2738)

I had the same problem with Carwings not displaying on my Iphone. I was instructed by the help center to take it to the dealer...which I did this morning. They reset carwings, but my Iphone still did not work. I just called the help center again and they reset carwings with a new used id and pin. I had to do the same in the car. As soon as that was done, everything worked on my Iphone again.

...Well, I went right on down there, and sat around for two more hrs, and came home with nothing again. This is getting frustrating! Me thinks Carwings is just a pile of C**P. :x :x :x :x :x :x
Do you mean they failed to install the update, or that you were updated but it didn't fix Carwings?

They failed (were unable) to install the update

Well, my Carwings is still kaput. Mossy Kearny Mesa says they're still waiting for information from Nissan on a fix. Tomorrow (8/2) I'm taking it to a different dealer, (Mossy Poway) nearby, to see if they can fix the problem. I can log in to my Owner's Portal, but I still get "no service" in the car.

I'll post my results when available.

You might want to call and talk to their LEAF specialist before driving in. Ask for verification that they HAVE DONE other LEAF firmware updates (the A/C "fix") AND are all prepared to do this "TCU fix" firmware update.

Thanks Gary; I talked to the Leaf Specialist @ Mossy Poway. He said there is no Carwings "update" that he is aware of. He said to bring it in, and he will "re-load the software". He advised that he did this on another Leaf last week, and it solved the problem. I'll take it in and see what happens. If this doesn't fix it, I will disregard Carwings altogether. It's been nothing but a PITA for me so far anyway.

I assume everyone knows that the LEAF only uses AT&T Cell towers.. So if you are like me My car will only update when its in range of AT&T.. WE are all Verizon here so for Carwings to be of any use I have to drive may car to an area of the city that has AT&T coverage!!..

I find that to be a huge mistake on Nissan's part as At&T is just not as wide spread as Verizon.

Anyway if you have great At&T coverage in your home then something else is wrong..But for Most of us in Santa Barbara At&T is of no use so Carwings is just a joke..

Update 8/2/2011: Mossy in Poway fixed my Carwings this morning. :)

Now Nissan tells me the Carwings nav updates are in June and September. Clearly they can't be relied on for accurate information.

In the mean time, the nav tells me there's a new charging station in the middle of a field at the outskirts of town. I went there to investigate. This seems to be a rather unusual charging station. There's no road leading to it, and the rancher that lives nearby probably wouldn't appreciate me trying to drive into his field. Besides, the charging station must be underground cause all I see is several acres of tall grass.

It's a new design, supposed to blend with the environment better.

I see that there are 4 separate hookups. The black & white color stands out nicely, don't you think?

Following the advice in this thread, I was cautious but I still got burned. I called my dealer's service department (Empire, in Ontario, CA), asked for a Leaf specialist, asked them if they had the TCU permanent reset firmware update, and he said yes. I made an appointment for a few days hence, drove the 15 miles to their location, was assured by their assistant service manager that they had the update. 10 minutes later he said my car was ready because it actually would take 1 + 1/2 weeks for them to get the "update card."

I guess I am just gullible when people choose to lie to me. I had a sinking feeling right after I gave the keys to the assistant service manager. He asked me what Carwings was.

Are the firmware updates each a physical memory card that must be shipped ?

Saturday, Aug 6, I discovered that Carwings is now working with my Leaf. There has been no firmware update as I posted above. Is it possible the problem was fixed at the Carwings server, so no firmware change is required now ?
