I am trying to figure out if i need to change my driving / charging routine to catch the battery warranty. I started keeping a log of the AHr from leafSpyLite to see how quickly AHr was dropping. Today i observed a strange report, the AHr reported did not drop, it increased instead ! It went from 43.34 last week to 43.46 this week.

The problem is there is no exact number; I have been around 43.3 AHr for a few days since the weather has cooled. We don't know all the triggers that go into dropping a bar, other than an upper bound for the AHr number. In our case, that is somewhere around 44, so we have already fallen below that number. At this point, all we can do is drive and wait.

Have others also observed the battery capacity measure go back up? Is this normal? It makes extrapolating the AHr to the magic 42.5 threshold really hard...
Yes, that behavior is normal. I have seen increases of a few tenths to .5 AHr many times over the 2+ years I have been tracking my battery degradation, probably due to temperature differences. As far as how to change your driving habits, I would say charge it to 100% every day and "drive it like you stole it." Have you had the P3227 update done on the car? How far under the parameters of 5 years and 60K miles to obtain a warranty replacement are you? Did you opt out of the class-action suit? Where are you located?

Sounds like us Southern Cal 2011 LEAFs are in similar situations. I'm currently at 45K mi, 49mo, Ahr=45.7. History in signature block.

Just dropped the 4th bar like (accelerated) clockwork. 49K mi, 53mo, Ahr=43.28.

Congrats! Good to see someone in my micro-climate qualify for a replacement battery. I haven't given up hope yet, especially seeing you are above 43 AHr and not below when the fourth bar went. I am at 43.84 AHr with a little less than 6 months to go on the warranty. It's going to be close....

Good luck TT. Yea, i'm in Carmel Valley area so pretty close. our LEAF is a daily driver w/ short errand trips so the battery temp stays fairly elevated all the time.

Congrats! But at the same time...WHY DOES MY 9TH BAR KEEP HANGING ON????? WAAAAAH!!!! :x

Edit: 104 degrees when I left school, and 7 temp bars on the dash by the time I got home. Will that be enough to push my car over the edge, after tonight's charging session?

Just dropped my vehicle off at the dealer for a battery capacity warranty replacement. 2011 SLe with 57k miles and 8 bars of capacity remaining.
Since I shipped the vehicle from CA to GA 2 years ago, I expect it's one of the highest mileage Leaf's in the state.
Looking forward to getting my original range restored.

Do you got AHr numbers from the date of loss?

Charge immediately and often during this heat. No cooling off period. Too much at stake.

The warm weather in the SF Bay area finally pushed my battery over the edge, and lost 4th bar yesterday.

2011 Leaf, with 54,661 miles on it, driving it for 4 years 2 months, so 10 months left on the warranty.

Odo AHr
53162 43.98
53339 43.59
53558 43.43
54015 43.34
54256 43.46
54470 43.48
54519 43.45
54661 43.41 <--- down to 8 bars

Time to bring it in to dealer now, and request a warranty repair :D

"Bay Area" covers an awful lot of microclimates. One of the local TV forecasters occasionally puts up a graphic showing a 30, 40 and even occasionally a 50 deg. temperature delta over a 35 mile distance, from say Pacifica (coastal fog) to Dublin or Livermore (inland valley heat).

Ah! Another car with random increases in AHr in advance of loosing bar 9. This gives me (some) hope.

As I posted at http://mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?p=300216#p300216 in June 2013:
"Today was an illustration of the extreme variance in temps in the Bay Area, probably more so than usual for summer... err spring.

It was pretty darn hot in my part of SJ. News said the city of SJ was 95, but my part gets hotter, I wouldn't be surprised if it got to 97 or 99. Anyhow, today it was 111 F in Dublin, 107 in Livermore, 105 in Walnut Creek but only 62 (!!!) in SF and 67 in Santa Cruz. Other temps for the day: Pacifica at 69, Half Moon Bay at 61 and Bodega Bay at 60."

Chattanooga Mountain View Nissan did its first capacity warranty battery replacement last week.
Somewhere around 50,000 miles on 2011 LEAF.
I haven't gotten AHr info yet.

So it is possible in Chattanooga but have to put quite a few miles on it.

Just caught up with this thread and I see 9th bars dropping like flies, even for 43.XXers, but poor mwalsh and me still have it hanging on under 43 (42.8 for me today.) No fair!

These are great data! Do you have approximate dates to go along with the odometer/Ah readings? Looks like about 1500 miles from 44 Ah to dropping - there could be a clue there.

I've been following this thread for months now since I lost my 3rd bar somewhere around 55,000. Now I'm almost at end of warranty 59,887 miles and my 9th bar refuses to drop. My Leaf Spy Pro numbers are: 42.34 Ahr 64% SOH 43.35 Hx

It's so frustrating owning a car that I love but can't drive. It just sits in the driveway all week charged at 100%. I'm so sick of this waiting game! The car is obviously below 70% capacity. I can't afford to sell it...I can't afford to buy a new battery...the range has dropped so low I can't drive it to work. So it just sits there collecting dust.
Thanks for posting - I'd say that's a pretty powerful first post! I think it's important that people hear about the ridiculousness that is Nissan.

I hope for your sake that whatever triggers the bar to finally drop isn't based on mileage... Just in case it's based on charges, you might try discharging/charging it. You might want to try taking it to a dealer anyway and complaining about range. Maybe if you make enough of a stink about it and maybe go to the press or something Nissan will just relent and get you your new pack now. Good luck!

Hey, stop whining please, some of us don't even have the warranty coverage anymore, at least you still have a chance. Public charging options are out there. Does your car have a QC port?
