Introducing Zap : New 2013 SL

Greetings fellow minded EVers.

Wanted to say hello. I just picked up my new 2013 Bright Silver SL, affectionately named "Zap" by my kids.

So far, I'm incredibly impressed. This is my first EV, I am really enjoying it.

Wanted to say hello. I just picked up my new 2013 Bright Silver SL, affectionately named "Zap" by my kids.

Ooh... you might encourage them to come up with a new nickname. "ZAP" is a company that perennially gives EVs a bad name.

A feature article in the April 2008 issue of Wired alleged that "ZAP has taken millions from investors and dealers eager to see the company's line of green cars hit the road. But that line has never materialized." The article alleges that board members issued themselves large amounts of company stock and warrants and made misleading claims about the company's prospects, allowing them to enrich themselves at the expense of dealers who bought franchises and did not receive the cars that they were expecting to sell. While the company sold the low-end Xebra for a number of years, more expensive, higher-performance models have been repeatedly announced but not produced.

ZAP sold a lot of shares based on its intention to sell Smart cars, but that deal fell through, leading Daimler-Chrysler, the Smart car's manufacturer, to say that ZAP's behavior revealed "both the sham nature of its purported business and a lack of trustworthiness that is nothing short of stunning."

I got the SL package. They were not able to fine the Bose/Camera package, but everything else is there.

I just set up an appointment to have the Type2 Charger installed. Have people had good/bad experiences with any manufacturer over another?

I'm in Wallingford, and my neighbor right across the street has a Red 2012.

There was a $3500 PA "Grant" but it ended in February 2013.
It was limited to a certain number of cars.
They have a new program for $3000, but it only applies to purchased vehicles, not leases.

I actually went with a lease. I figure the rate of change on battery / charger technology is changing so fast that in 2 years we will see some substantial differences.
