Yesterday I went to a PetroCan charger where I had charged many times before with no trouble. I plugged in at 22% and went to get a coffee. Came back at 86%, unplugged, started the car and immediately went into Turtle Mode. I restarted a few times and still Turtle'd. I called the dealer and they said bring it over. Unfortunately the road to the dealer has a high speed limit so with 4way flashers on and with every pickup truck in the province honking at me and zooming past me like it was a personal affront I finally made it to the dealer. The advisor told me that particular charger had fried an Ariya to the point where Nissan Japan had to get involved in complaining with PetroCan. Of course did PetroCan take it out of service or put up a sign or anything else? Of course not. So now I'm Leafless for at least the weekend and maybe much longer if my car has gone the way of that Ariya. Not a happy Leafer.

I am truly underwhelmed by PetroCan and their chargers. They don't maintain their equipment. They make promises they don't keep. My suspicion is that they got a government grant to put these in as a sort of green washing.

PetroCan has always been my least favourite charger but in my town we have one CHAdeMO Electrify America plug (which is very often taken up by a CCS charging car) and three BC Hydro plugs. It's crazy that in a city larger than 100,000 those are your choices and at least one of the chargers is usually out of commission. And unfortunately, the PetroCan is the one closest to the Starbucks. I love my Leaf (or loveD my Leaf depending on what the dealer's service advisor tells me next week) but I would never again buy a CHAdeMO car for any reason. I hate to say it because my opinion of Tesla is somewhat lower than whale dreck, but my next EV will definitely be (a non-Tesla) charging at an NACS.

XLH, if you don't mind me asking, which metro in Canada are you in?

2 additional lifelines have appeared for us here in the US in the last year. 1. Hyundai and Nissan dealers all appear to be putting in dual ccs/Chademo units. Even ifnjust 1 unit, if the only other spot was thensingle EA station, that still provides redundancy. 2. Circle K is rolling out across different geos also with ccs/Chademo charges. 3. (Though slow going) 7-11 is also adding ccs/Chademo chargers nationwide, but haven't moved much beyond CA/FL/CO that I have seen.

I am personally hoping for 3 more years of strong Chademo support for our 2 Plus models. Not sure I can hope for much more.

Hi DougWantsALeaf. I'm in Nanaimo BC. In just over a year I already have nearly 40K km (25K mi) on the Leaf, with three trips of several thousand kms each, so even if I do get it back from the dealer I don't expect to keep it much longer. Even with its unfortunate Tesla roots, I don't think I have any realistic choice but to go with an NACS EV.

Yes, Electrify Canada... still owned by VW, still with one CHAdeMO plug on the same charger as a CCS so it's unavailable most of the time, and still quite UNelectrifying. They put it next to a Canadian Tire and across a huge parking lot from a Timmy's so by the time you get there you are soaked... we get pretty well the same rain you do!

BTW, interim report from Nissan Service. Primary Charging Circuit fried. Specialists from Nissan on the mainland are coming over to see if the car is gonna be junked or not. PetroCan is going to be paying for a lot (including my rental car!). And BTW as of a couple of hours ago the charger that has killed at least two EVs in the last couple of months was still open and welcoming more suckers. It boggles the mind.

Do you have the address for the QC station, we could put up alerts on Plugshare, etc. to flag it as bad to warn others at least.

Sure!

Petro Canada, 1100 Terminal Avenue North, Nanaimo, BC V9S 5H8 Canada

Thanks!

I might have "had" a wet EV, we are coming up on three weeks and the Leaf has not budged from the dealership. PetroCan is doing their best impression of the three wise monkeys, ICBC is giving lip service to subrogation, and I'm slowly going broke at $600 a week for a rental car. Meanwhile, the service station has blocked off both chargers, so that makes me wonder how many other non-Nissan EVs in this town are fried. This is not a good situation at all. :x
