Hi All, Just an update for Santa Monica Nissan... Toni Martin is no longer with us, but I'll be happy to help anyone in the SoCal region with their LEAF order. I've got more EV experience than any dealer in the nation. I helped co-found Plug In America and have been driving a RAV4 EV for 8 years. I can also help you get solar PV so you can literally drive on sunshine!

Give me a call at 310-403-1303.

Cheers,

Paul Scott

I ordered through Younker Nissan in Renton, WA and was offered and accepted invoice + $100. Based on the feedback here, I feel pretty good about my choice to go with these guys.

Though it can be beaten now, I still feel good about my $1,000 off MSRP deal, particularly as my RAQ was placed back on September 1st when not nearly as many dealers were dealing... At that time, Santa Monica, Universal, Superior and some other local dealers basically told me to get lost <G>... Plus, the folks at Fontana (Joanna) have been great to deal with from the get-go!

Hey, I hope you didn't get the brush off from anyone at Santa Monica. We just think the car has value equal to the price. I'm the LEAF specialist there and I've been driving an EV for 8 years. I bought a RAV EV for $42,500 back when the gas RAV was $18K and gas was $1.40. I felt good about that purchase then, and I think that makes the LEAF at $34K a bargain and a half.

If the good people at Fontana want to give you a full $1,000 off MSRP, then more power to them. I want us all to sell a lot of cars.

Rather than try to compete against price, we're going for faster allocation. We'll get over 50 per month, so our customers have a better chance at getting the $5,000 CA rebate.

Actually, I did. But that was three months ago so it is water under the bridge now.

But for what it is worth, not nearly as bad a brush off as I got from Superior Nissan which is only a few miles away from me <Grin>!

I wonder how the size of your "faster" allocation correlates to delivery or ability to redeem the Ca 5k rebate?

It's still unclear exactly how many LEAFs will qualify for the CA rebate, but it is a first come, first served deal. You can't apply for the rebate until you take delivery of the car. So, if your dealer has a small allocation, and you don't get delivery until several months out, then there is a chance the fund is dry by the time you get your car.

The dealer does not have an "allocation". They have a limit to the number of orders thay can take in a month's time. Once the order is made the car is placed in line for Production and Delivery. Whether the dealer has a large number of orders they can take or small, if the order is placed there is no difference. So what would the dealers number of orders they can take in a month have to do with how quickly they receive their car once it's been ordered?

It was explained to me that dealers do indeed have an allocation in the number of cars that Nissan will deliver each month. Our dealership will have a higher allocation than most of the others, so our customers will have a higher chance of getting their LEAFs sooner, and therefore will have a better chance of getting the CA rebate.

Sadly that isn't correct. The allocation limits how many orders they can place in a month, not how many they can receive in a month. On a long enough time line it's the same thing, but having a higher allocation number doesn't speed along the delivery process, it just means Nissan will drop off a higher number to you in a month (assuming you can sell that full amount).

Nissan will drop off a higher number to you in a month

I guess I'm confused. If orders placed in a specific month relate to number of cars Nissan will "drop off" in a month.....how does that not relate to delivery time?

The LEAF-Order Allocation has nothing to do with number of LEAFs "dropped off" in this month, or any other month.

It limits the number of LEAF-QRDERS that the dealer can "accept" in THIS month. The LEAFs will be delivered when they are ready ... some months later.

To Clarify. The only thing that determines how many Leaf's are dropped off is how many orders you took and when. A small dealer could have more Leaf's dropped off if they obtained more orders. That's All. I'm going to give Paul the benefit of the doubt that he was misinformed by whomever explained it to him. That's why I handle these orders for the locations I supervise to limit this sort of confusion.

I received my email today and just placed the order with Danny at Fontana for $1,000 off MSRP.

Thanks to all of those who posted and saved me the time of calling every dealership within 100 miles of Los Angeles!

If I put in an RFQ today, and the dealer has an allocation of 500 cars/month, I will not get the car any faster than if I order today from another dealer who has an allocation of 5 cars/month. The only time it would make a difference is if I went to the dealer with 5/mo and he could not accept my RFQ today because he is out of allocations. In this case, for me to order today, I would have to go to another dealer with allocations available (even if it is a dealer with 1/mo).

Yes, but if your dealer of choice only had 5 allocation slots which were already filled, your choice would be to go to a dealer with larger allocation or wait until your dealer finally had enough allocation to fill your order.
