My Battery was replaced on June 2014 at 35,450 miles

I lost the first bar on the replacement battery early this month (Oct) 2015 at 51,850 miles

Replacement battery was of the original chemistry.

When I asked Nissan Customer Support when I lost my 9th bar whether I should wait for the "Hot Battery". I was told by the Leaf Battery Specialist that they have no idea when the battery will be available and that I should not wait. The "Hot Battery" was announced two weeks after my battery was replaced.

Read the thread of (Amended Settlement of Klee V. Nissan). You may have a claim to get a lizard battery. I don't know, but I think you would have to wait till the one you have degrades to 8 bars first. Were you one of those mailed a packet in September 2013? So far, this is undocumented territory you inquire about. From what I read, you will get a lizard battery or better once it degrades to 8 bars in under 5 years/60,000 miles. The uncharted territory is if you request one immediately. They may have to give you one now but why would you? You know they have to give you one so use the other one up first. That is how I see it. You may be one of those that is the luckiest after all!

You went 50k miles and only lost 1 bar...in Arizona? That's a huge improvement over your previous battery! If you didn't know for a fact that this was not the "hot battery", I would have guessed it was. I understand you wanted the "hot battery", but it seems as though you will eventually exceed the conditions of even the new warranty (for the 30 kWh battery).

My understanding is he's lost a total of FIVE bars (four on the original, and one on the replacement) in those 51,850 miles. The new battery dropped a bar after only 16,400 miles.

I think the OP will clarify that there are 50k TOTAL miles on the car, with x of those miles being on the new pack.

oh

In that case, never mind :p

Hi Everyone,

Sorry for the confusion.

Lost 4 bars on the original battery ,
Battery Replaced
Lost 1 bar on the replacement battery

Dave

That "first bar lost" on the new battery is like a double-bar, because the Leaf requires ~15% capacity loss to drop the first bar.

So it could also be phrased that you lost 15% capacity on the new battery in 15K miles. Do you know how that compares with the point at which you lost the first bar on the old battery?

I'm tracking to lose my first bar on a replacement (Lizard) battery on Leaf 2 (2011 SL) in April 2016 about 16 months from install. So my "Hot Battery" is not doing any better than what your (non Lizard) did. The Lizard battery is either a sham or a fail.

Unless I'm missing something, you left out the fact that you've driven as many miles in 16 months (~40k) as I drove in 4 years! I'm not saying the lizard battery is the greatest thing ever, but it seems to me you have to drive it a lot longer/harder than the original battery to achieve the same amount of degradation.

No, I only have something like 8,000 miles on the new (Lizard) battery in the last 14 months and it is not driven hard at all. I will have about 9,500 miles at 16 months. The OP put on not almost double the miles more than I did and I will have the same 1st bar loss in 16 months from when mine was replaced.

I'm running right at 1% on my Lizard...

You lost 15% in 15,000 miles on original chemistry and I lost 6% in 6,000 miles on lizard. Can we say we are loosing 1% per 1000 miles?

Well at this point, I almost wish that still held true because my degradation is actually worse. My first year loss on Lizard battery showed 11% SOH statistically speaking, but for the first 7 months when the battery was new there was a burn off of the top reserve of the pack. Meaning that for approximately 7 months the battery showed 100% SOH then began dropping. So in reality, I am losing almost 2% per month. That really SUCKS! It looks like March-April loss will be drop of first bar @ 85% SOH.

Continuing the approximate 2% loss per month will mean that it will need replacement about March 2017 at 2.3 years of use.

Battery was replaced at end of December 2014 and remained at 100% SOH until mid July and then was at 89% by the one year anniversary. I have continued the stats out past the first year.

Here is how it did:
