The front plate *is* required in the People's Republik of Kalifornia, even though lots of cars don't have it. They just get a "fix-it" ticket very, very rarely. I've never gotten that ticket here, even though I've occasionally owned cars without the plate.

My dealer, Mossy Nissan Poway, did not mount the plate (I didn't ask them not to) and will install it on request.

I know someone that drove around with the Dealer Cardboard in the license plate frame on the back and the temporary registration sticker in the windshield for the entire 4 year lease. Never got pulled over for it..

He felt that the fix it ticket was cheaper than a photo redlight ticket.

thanks everyone for the explanation about the front plate. i agree that punching 2 holes in the front bumper kind of sucks but every other car i own is like that, so... i guess i'll just let them put it on.
