Though there is no chance I'll be selling soon, it's nice to know I could still probably get more than I paid (after incentives)

I'd never even heard of a trade in saving on sales tax until I lived in WA. It doesn't exist in CA, where I'm from and living again.

All in all, auction sales continue at a normal pace and price for this class of vehicle. This chart is based on actual dealer auction sales nationally for the week ending August 1.

Tony, What's your mileage? I suppose that's a good price considering you do have high mileage on your Leaf. I can't recall for sure but didn't you recently do a long drive for an event?

I doubt we would get anywhere near $23k in the SF Bay Area. If there are a higher concentration of EVs in a particular micro segment of the market (like the Bay Area), then the trade-in prices are much worse, I would imagine...

Our sales tax is likely even higher than yours (haven't bought a car recently, but I'm in Santa Clara County and the sales tax rate is at http://www.boe.ca.gov/cgi-bin/rates.cgi?LETTER=S&LIST=COUNTY" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false. We also have a state income tax (https://www.ftb.ca.gov/forms/2011_California_Tax_Rates_and_Exemptions.shtml" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false, unlike WA state.

It was 25,300 miles at sale. I did drive from Mexico to Canada, June 12-20, 2012, however that was with the current car that I leased May 27, 2012. The car that I sold would not have completed that trip do to battery degradation.

I don't know that you have more LEAFs per capita than we do in San Diego. I don't have super accurate LEAF data, but I think we're around 1000 LEAFs, and you have about 2500.

4500 / 1000 = 1 LEAF per 4.5 square miles (We have a lot of desert)

7,100,000 / 2500 = 1 LEAF in San Fran Bay Area per 2850 people

Hah! 1 Leaf per 3 sq miles! I am definitely seeing a lot more Leaf drivers in and around my area. ;-)

This would mean that trade-ins are generally bringing $22K - $24K.

I can give you one data point. I was reading where year old LEAF rental cars are now being sold off which were never or very rarely rented. Many only had a couple of hundred miles on them.

That's sad since rental fleets sales are huge. Once these rental companies have been burned, it will be like convincing Costco to install new EV chargers; not gunna happen.

I think one issue was that the rental cost was high compared to what a similar ICE would rent for... Many people probably said, "Why bother AND have to worry about range and chargers..."

This would mean that trade-ins are generally bringing $22K - $24K.

Meaning that LEAFs are retaining a higher percentage of their original MSRP than are Volts, correct?

Of course, The Average Volt sales price was probably discounted a greater amount below MSRP, to begin with.
