I know this may be wild speculation at this point, but I thought I'd ask anyway. Does anyone have any sort of estimate of when the 2013 Leaf might be announced and when you might be able to get one if you waited for a 2013 model?

Also If I were to reserve a Leaf today does anyone know what my waiting period might be?

I would speculate that we will know more details on the 2013 round about July and could order one early to mid fall for delivery at end of year.

If you ordered a Leaf now you will likely be told 3-4 months...at least that is what I was told when I placed my order last week.

CS will tell you 3-4 months as a stock answer. They also told me that in January, but it looks it will actually be 2 months. So it could be any thing from 2 -5 months.
IMHO, you can't really predict the time frames at this point.
Place your order, relax, have a homebrew, and wait for a call from your dealer.

I was wondering this too. If I could cancel my order now and wait 4 months, I could have a 2013 with a 6.6kW charger by the end of the year. But I came to the conclusion that the charger upgrade wouldn't be free. It would certainly mean another price increase. I'm hardly content with my $34,700 quote on a base SV with no accessories, I don't think I would be happy paying $1500+ more for a 2013.

I'm leasing. After 3 years, the market should be well saturated with a ton of choices. As long as gas stays expensive, there will always be advances made to BEVs. Besides, my plan for this car is to charge at night, so whether it takes 8 hours or 4 hours isn't really that relevant to me.

Has there been any speculation on other changes/features other than the 6.6kW charger? I don't think I'll need that at all.

Nothing that has anything other than pure, wide-eyed, unsubstantiated, speculation behind it...

So you're saying the 2013 Leaf will have a 600 mile range because they added two solar panels to the top? WOW!

Not really.

Current best ETA on the 2013 LEAF (assuming that they will be coming out of Smyrna, TN) is that they will start coming off the line very late 2012 or early 2013. Add 2-4 weeks to that before you start seeing them on dealer lots.

Why would 2013 be coming out of exclusively Smyrna? I think it's going to be a blend of Jap-made vehicles and Smyrna.

2011, 2012 folks, we are months away from getting our hands on 6.6 charger. Almost time to celebrate!

I looked at the 2012 the other day and I'm pleased to report that 2011 is the best deal so far: We actually do have the glove compartment light, not just the "chevy" hole. And we have the silencer button. My 18-year old daughter loves that one; she uses it to sneak out of the driveway at night to Leaf it to her b/f.
They did add the seat heaters and leather steering wheel. I can live without those.

I'm hoping Nissan won't give us any "jazz" to swap those 3.3 chargers as far as reasonable cost and availability -- and doability. It takes too long to charge the car to turn it around for another trip. It's been a big rub for me, because we have to ICE it if car's not ready in time.

It is almost a virtual certainty that it is not going to happen. Mark Perry has said as much...

You will.
Speak for yourself, coolfilmaker; don't try to judge other people's needs. I've had my car for nearly a year, and never found the 3.3kW charger too slow. The same may be true for gsleaf, and certainly would be for some fraction of other drivers.

(On only three occasions have I found myself running a bit short in getting to my destination. All three times I stopped for a 45 minute boost, and my wife and I had no problem occupying ourselves during the brief delay in our trip.)

For me either a lower price or less random climate control would be welcome features. I really don't care about charging speed.

According to a German Nissan Leaf Specialist, the 2013 Leaf in Europe will have a choice of interior fabric, including leather.

(crappy review by the way)

In 3.5 months, I'd more or less agree with this. I think there were two occasions where I actually sat around waiting to go somewhere until enough charge had built up that I felt comfortable making the trip. But so be it...if I was really in a hurry I could've taken my ICE car. I certainly do not think it would be worth $1000 more in the cost of the car or as an ugprade to get 6.6 kW for just a few occasions. Not saying that nobody would have a need for 6.6kW, but I agree with Ray: speak for yourselves and don't assume that everyone needs 6.6, just like everyone doesn't need 200 miles of range.

have to agree that 3.3 KW is acceptable. doubling the speed has never really benefited me.

for the past 5 weeks, i have intentionally tried (except for a week or so, had other things to do) to plug in as much as possible. this did not really change my shopping habits or nothing like that.

instead of parking in front of the establishment i was going to. i would park at a charging station and walk the area (no more than 2-3 blocks mind you)

i found that in many cases, i was basically topping off the car. for instance. i did a quick jaunt to Tacoma and back. then went to movies. plugged in with 2 bars left, walked across the street to see movie, i get out and i am back to 12 bars. not fully charged but still all 12 bars.

for other things, even quick trips to the store, i am still plugging in a minimum of 20 minutes which is enough to get me back 5-8 miles which is normally only slightly less than i used to get there.

granted, we have a lot of charging options but they are not very well spaced out with a recent charging station installed on the NE side of town being the first (it is on the busiest intersection but not a good location for walking to other locations)

but this is still the early stages of charging options and more and more companies are coming on board. i really do see L2 being plenty for me with a scattering of L3's to be able to go from town to town
