    What oil subsidies?

I keep reading on blogs, including MNL, about the subsidies that oil companies or oil products get from the U.S. government. What exactly are the subsidies? I need to make intelligent arguments about EV's and the tax credits we have received and compare them to the oil subsidies I keep...

Detroit 3 are in serious trouble...

...with Ford's EV out, it is getting panned. Nissan will have to bring out the Infinity EV soon. We know Tesla's plan for the S and upcoming X. Nissan is showing the guts to make a serious beachhead in the EV market. They have sold more EV cars in 2011 than all others--ever (someone quoted that...

Santa Monica BLVD not available on Nav system

The Nav system only has an option for Santa Monica Freeway? I wanted to get to BLVD. Luckily I had an Android/Google Maps directions. Ugh! Any updates or solutions to this?

Should I forget about LAX now that AB 475 passed?

If I'm lucky to actually find a spot next to a charger and someone disconnects me, I might get towed. If I disconnect someone else, they might get towed. What to do, maybe just drive the ICE, it is what Gummint Motors and our Brown shirt governor seem to want.

How to approach Ralphs about EVSE upgrade?

In Los Angeles, a mid-Wilshire Ralph's supermarket (Wilshire and Hauser) has two EV parking spaces per the pictures below. I'd like to meet with the manager and discuss the upgrade to the J1772 plug. 1. Should I recommend getting rid of the existing paddles? Does anyone still use these? 2...

How easy would be a battery upgrade in the future?

If battery technology improves to the point where the 100 mile Nissan battery could be replaced with a similar sized/weight 200 or 300 mile battery, how easily would the car upgrade be? It looks like dropping the battery pack would be easy but what about the software and wires? Someone has...

How to I know when a Volt is fully charged?

In case I need to disconnect it from a public charging station? As we all know, the Leaf windshield blue lights just turn off when no longer charging?

    Camarillo to Thousand Oaks question

Has anyone gone up that huge hill just south of Camarillo? How many SOC bars did you use up? What speed? I am planning a trip to Oxnard from the northeast San Fernando Valley 65 miles and just worried about the trip back and going up that huge hill. Will I make it all the way with 100% charge?

My Leaf had to use a gas station today!

There I was in the right lane at a red light. My Leaf was number three waiting to make a right on red. The number one car wouldn't make the right turn...... ....I was in a hurry to make the right turn....so I entered the gas station, cut the corner, made the right turn, and went home.

    gas generator trailer for EV's

I found this on the Tesla Motors Club forum. It's a way to convert your 100% EV into a Volt for longer trips. http://www.teslamotorsclub.com/showthread.php/802-The-ACP-long-ranger

Can we avoid the EVSE altogether?

Could one purchase the $250 Yazaki 25 foot cord with J1772 and connect the other end to a NEMA 14-50 and just plug it into the 14-50 receptacle? Does the Leaf's onboard charger require the pilot signal from the EVSE? If yes, it is just simple current that one could send down those wires with a...

Need a part number for the USB port

I wish to disconnect the USB cable from the existing USB port, and connect it under the cupholder and out of sight, then run the iPod cable to the glove box so I won't have to disconnect and connect the iPod each time I drive. ETA: I found the part number from http://www.parts.com. It is...

Need a new USB port to hide my iPod

Rather than disconnect my iPod each time I leave the car, I'd like to keep the iPod in the glove box and run a hidden wire. I lifted the center plastic that contains the USB and Auxiliary port and noticed that the USB port wire can be easily disconnected. Now if I can find a replacement USB...

Today I saw a 100% EV delivery truck from Staples

Here is an online picture and story: http://www.mnn.com/green-tech/transportation/blogs/staples-buys-electric-delivery-trucks-that-was-easy And here is the manufacturer's website: http://www.smithelectric.com/default.aspx That is all very encouraging. Too bad GM, Ford, and Chrysler aren't...

Isn't using the Leaf really killing trees?

The display keeps showing how many trees using my Leaf has saved. But that doesn't make sense. Trees and plants "breathe" CO2 and animals and humans breathe oxygen. So by not emitting any CO2 (and I have solar panels on the house), we are depriving trees of CO2--hence we are really killing the...

    Today was oil change day

I did the annual oil change on 5 cars today. What a mess! I never minded performing this chore in the past. But after each car, I would look over at the Leaf and shake my head. Slowly over the next few years, I'll see those ICE cars being replaced by EVs. How exciting. Now to turn in 7 gallons...

What is the cost in miles for adding a 100Watt/channel amp?

Before I spend a fortune installing Hertz speakers and a 4 channel amp at 100 watts per channel, how do I figure out the mileage loss? Don't amps really run at much lower wattage? What is the formula to calculate the loss +/-?

    Why the EVSE at all?

What if the EVSE electronics were in the car, and a connector similar in safety and function to the J1772 (up to 80 amps) came out of the car and into the 240 volt receptacle in the wall? The advantage would be that infrastructure would be simpler, the on board EVSE would be matched to...

What size portable generator to L2 charge?

How about a Honda suitcase generator in the trunk to charge the Leaf with 240 volts whenever you stop on a camping trip in remote areas? Or even 400 volts (I'm not sure who makes one)? How do you figure out the size you need?
