Yes, he has blogged about using a bad boy charger on the NIMH pack with a timer to make sure to check and shut it off. This is very dangerous and an easy fire hazard on any pack That should have been evident to the fire dept once the flames were out, being the fire came from one car or the other or another source all together.

Here's an update.

"While the Volt's battery pack sustained damage, it was not extensive enough or of the type that would suggest that it caused the fire," Parks said. "In addition, there is clear evidence based on moderate damage to the cord set and charging system that neither component caused the fire."

Very good! As a rule, you examine the most damaged things when looking for the origins of a fire. If the Volt pack, EVSE and chordset were far less damaged than other possible sources then it's a pretty good sign the Volt did not cause this problem.

that investigators from the state, GM, an insurance company and the national auto safety board all concluded that the Volt did not start the blaze.

Unfortunately, this isn't enough. They need to find the culprit.

Somehow I don't think the cause is a mystery, the mystery is why they don't have a specific cause yet, not even a general one although they never ruled out the other car. They sure did respond quickly to that fire though.
