carwings distance calculation vs dashboard data

Got my used 2012 leaf a few months ago and was interested in finding out KWH consumed - logged into CARWINGS - and found that the distance was close to 1400 miles driven in 5 months
The car documents shows the mileage as 11,411 when I got it and the dashboard on the car shows 15,242 - so about 4K miles -
What would explain this difference?

Perhaps the original owner did not set up the CARWINGS account right away. Probably got done after the first 4K miles had been driven. I drove about 300 or so miles before I set up my CARWINGS subscription and I can see the different totals as well.
