This to me lends credence to the slightly larger actual energy density (2015) as compared to the original 2011. So the approximate 7% surface charge translated to a gain of 10 EPA miles on vehicles after 2011-12. I believe 11-12 were rated EPA 74 miles and 13-15 are rated 84 EPA miles.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but the change in EPA rating was due to the elimination of the 80% charge option and the way EPA calculated the range. Testing by Tony Williams showed no improvement in range. It was all smoke and mirrors.
No, the increase in '14 and '15 range from 75 to 84 miles was due to the elimination of the 80% charge option but it still existed on the '13.

EPA rated range went from 73 ('11 and '12) to 75 ('13) to "84" ('14 and '15) miles per http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/Find.do?action=sbs&id=30979&id=33558&id=34699.

Yes, Tony's steady speed 100 kph range test on a '13 S showed no improvement but it's nothing like the EPA tests. Article at http://priuschat.com/threads/car-and-driver-the-truth-about-epa-city-highway-mpg-estimates.67235/ written before the Leaf but the test schedule and details at http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/fe_test_schedules.shtml might be interesting. None are steady state and the highest average speed of any of the tests is 48.4 mph.

If you believe those batteries will last 10 years in hot climates, I've got some desert property I can sell you...
It doesn't matter what I believe, since it is warranted to last that long (or 100,000 miles) by Nissan. If it doesn't last, you get a new one. I DO believe Nissan will last that long.

Remember the warranty is to repair to a minimum of 9 bars for capacity. That in fact is the warranty...
That's right. And, as I said, a 30-kWh battery with 10 bars remaining has as much range as a 12-bar LEAF with all 12 bars still showing.

"And, as I said, a 30-kWh battery with 10 bars remaining has as much range as a 12-bar LEAF with all 12 bars still showing"

I think you meant

"And, as I said, a 30-kWh battery with 10 bars remaining has as much range as a 24-kWh battery with all 12 bars still showing"

as the first version has a bit of tautology going on there and likely confuses anyone that reads it. Feel free to change the sentence to say what you really meant if I didn't infer correctly.

or in other words I think all leafs are "12-bar leafs" if you want to call them that no matter how many bars are showing and no matter if they are 24, 30, or 60 kWh.

Thanks for the correction! Yes, that's what I meant!

That is a bit of tautology, isn't it?
